if I want to teach my students to stop and make a difference to their life to lead a
healthy lifestyle and live a happy life.

Week 2 9/3/2016
Reflections in class.
1. What was enjoyable about he practical experience in which you have just
participated?
Interacted with more than one individual Doing group work and interacting with a
number of people at once. Learning how to conduct lessons difference using different
approaches.
2. What made it enjoyable?
Speaking to different people and having everyone join in and have fun as everyone was
out of their comfort zone and we all found it enjoyable. It was something different to the
normal Physical Education practicals.
3. What learning was facilitated during the practical session?
A hands on approach was taken to conduct this lesson, involving everyone In the task
and not one certain individual. We were showed the listening the commands skill and
how to follow simple instructions and how to go about this when teaching your class.
4. What do you think is the most important to teach for enjoyment or teach for
learning?
I believe it is important for children to not only be taught on how to complete a certain
skills they need to enjoy why they are doing to make them want to come back to have
fun. Making learning fun for children is a good way to teach because it grasps their
concentration for long periods of time.
Reflections out of class.
1. What was enjoyable about he practical experience in which you have just
participated?
2. What made it enjoyable?
3. What learning was facilitated during the practical session?
4. What do you think is the most important to teach for enjoyment or teach for
learning? Keeping the students motivated makes it easier for the student to enjoy
what they are doing by just learning and not having enjoyment incorporated a students
concentration span will increase and last a lot longer If they actually enjoy what they
do.

Week 3 16/3/2016
Reflections in class.
1. What are the advantage facilitators and disadvantages inhibitors of the
command approach for learning?
ADVANTAGES
- To be able to teach larger groups of student at once
- Teaches a student to gain a wider understanding of a simple task when showed with
commands,
- Children work better when not singled out makes students feel comfortable.
DISADVANTAGES
- Doesnt allow for differentiation
- Doesnt allow for learning for each individual
- Makes it harder for student learning and doesnt allow for them to work at their own
pace.
2. What was learnt by the students in the activities that you have just
experienced?
Tennis Serve How to toss a ball correctly before learning to hold and follow through
with the racket. When then received feedback from our peers this assisted in the
correction of our tennis serve.
Forward role How to tuck your head under correctly without injuring your neck or back,
place your hands in the correct position to wider you base of support so you are not off
balance or fall because you are off balance, and how to role with the assistant of your
peer.
Organisation of equipment How to hand equipment out to students and different ways
to go about it to avoid controversy In the class. For example get the students to line up
in a line, go by the month they are born, or the letter of the alphabet just something to
avoid arguments about sporting equipment
3. What were the facilitators and inhibitors of learning using the task
approach?
Can provide specific feedback to each student helping them improve and individually
improve each students skills,
4. What do you believe you are learning about the teaching of physical
education using either the command or task approaches too teaching?
Adapting to different circumstances

- No recognizing of prior knowledge
- Loss of control of time
- Loss of motivation
- Behaviour management
2. What was learnt by the students in the activities that you have just
experienced?
How to be taght by the task approach and follow instructions,
3. What were the facilitators and inhibitors of learning using the task
approach?
Wasnt as such a command approach just teaching by task,
Primarily taught by the teacher. How one can be involved in practices.
Review reflect and research.
Students need to follow directions
Instructions need to be precise
Teaching directed pedagogy
4. What do you believe you are learning about the teaching of physical
education using either the command or task approaches too teaching?
Seeking clarification

Week 4 23/3/2016
Reflections in class.
1. For intended student learning outcomes, what are they ( teaching by task
pedagogy )
- ADVANTAGES/ FACILITATORS?
-Steady progression from the basic to the more advance
- Increased interest

-Prolonged approach
- Time management
2. What would you like to focus on most in the upcoming Module 1 practice
teaching experience?
Focus on getting the skill right and being able to confidently present myself to the
class.
3. How are you feeling about teaching, and the approach that you will use?
Im feeling confident about teaching but I am nervous as well. Im not one to like
talking in front of people but this I an aspect I will learn to improve on and hopefully
this will assist me in getting better.
4. What do you anticipate will be the most challenging aspect of this
experience?
I believe the most challenging aspect will be for myself personally is speaking loud
enough so everyone is able to hear what I am saying clearly. Also generally just
teaching the skill and remembering each of the different aspects included.
5. Consider how your feeling from this Module 1 experience will contribute to
your first placement in school?
This will assist me in thinking about how I am gong to teach on my placements and
assist me in thinking about how I go about this.

Thoughts out of class

- little student input
- Not allow for different standards of achievement
-

Week 5
In class
1. How did todays skills teaching session enhance your understanding of
teacher directed pedagogies?
Todays session enhanced my thinking towards the student directed pedagogy by
looking at it the teaching by task command differently and how this impacted the
students learning
2. What did you learn
I learnt how to correctly hit the tennis ball with the racket and the proper racket
movements. I also learnt how to fix my basketball free throw shot.
Out of class
1. How did todays skills teaching session enhance your understanding of
teacher directed pedagogies?
The different skills and games shown were done so by using the teaching by task
and command teaching pedagogies. This assisted me in showing how I could teach
my module 1 and it enhanced my understanding immensely
2. What did you learn
How to go about making sure I was completing skills the correct way. This all
assisted me in how I go about teaching my module 1.

Week 6
1. How effectively do you think your student learning outcomes were
achieved (ie. Skills, knowledge & attitudes)?
I believe my outcomes were achieved, I think my skill that was taught was taught well
and people easily grasped the concept of it. Attitude towards the skill were good and
positive seemed as though everyone was enjoying themselves
2. What evidence / examples support your beliefs (e.g. indicators of
achievement observed or heard)?
When asking my peers at the end of my skill the questions, everyone said that the
outcome I was hoping to achieve was well achieved and well enjoyed. One big thing
that everyone said is I really explained the drills to a high standard ensuring everyone
knew what they were doing and how to go about completing the skill. As I ensured
everyone as doing it right and knew what they were doing,.
3. What would you retain or change if you were to teach your session again
tomorrow?
If I was to teach my skill tomorrow I would make my objective clearer to the group at
the beginning and perhaps not make the drills or activities go for as long to prevent
them from getting bored.
4. What did you learn from the feedback you received from your group
From the feedback given I learnt I need to time my activities better as I could see that
people were getting a little bored whilst doing the tasks asked.
Out of class
1. How effectively do you think your student learning outcomes were
achieved (ie. Skills, knowledge & attitudes)?
I believe my outcomes were achieved but I could have done better if I was more
prepared. I should have highlighted the safety aspects better as a girl was wearing a
watch and it did break, if safety aspects were addressed this would have been easily
prevented.
2. What evidence / examples support your beliefs (e.g. indicators of
achievement observed or heard)?
The reason I know that everyone could see, hear and be seen is because no on asked
questions later on about the activities and what they were suppose to do. Everything
was clear and concise and everyone knew what he or she were doing and how to go
about it.
3. What would you retain or change if you were to teach your session again

Week 7
In class
3. how did todays skills teaching session enhance your understanding
of teacher directed pedagogies?
Helped me understand different teaching methods and how these can affect
someones learning differently
4. What did you learn?
I learnt how to sprint using the correct technique, and gain knowledge in the
area of volleyball and work on my setting skills.
Out of class
3. how did todays skills teaching session enhance your understanding
of teacher directed pedagogies?
All sessions that were taught helped me gain a better understanding of the
pedagogies undertaken and how I could enhance my learning next time in the
same area.
4. What did you learn?
A number of actives were undertaken this week and they consisted in, being
taught how to run with precise precision, how to set a volley ball and the vital
skills needed and how to skip.

Week 8. In class
1. What were the most important points raised by your colleagues
about your
Module 1 teaching?
I was strong in the area of
- Eye contact
- Using a loud clear voice
-Commands that were easily followed
- Demonstrations were easy to comprehend.
2.

How did providing feedback to your colleagues help you to

reflect on your own teaching experience?

In the week before this caused me to think about my own teaching Module and
how I could improve my own and what I could do to ensure I get the best grade
possible.
The week following I found it easier to give feedback as I had been given
feedback myself, this made it easy for me as I thought about the feedback that
was given to me
3. What do you now see as the major facilitators and inhibitors to
students learning of teacher directed pedagogical approaches?
- Interchange of different skills
Out of class
1. What were the most important points raised by your colleagues
about your
Module 1 teaching?
I have strength in the area of speaking in front of people and explaining drills to
the best of my ability. However I was told that I need to switch the games up
more often and have them go for a shorter amount of time as some of the
people got bored.
2. How did providing feedback to your colleagues help you to reflect on
your own teaching experience?
Helped me gain a better understanding in the areas I could improve on and what
I could have done to make my lesson better, and what I will do next time. In the
week before this caused me to think about my own teaching Module and how I
could improve my own and what I could do to ensure I get the best grade
possible. The week following I found it easier to give feedback as I had been
given feedback myself, this made it easy for me as I thought about the feedback
that was given to me.

3. What do you now see as the major facilitators and inhibitors to

students learning of teacher directed pedagogical approaches?
- lack of confidence if the teacher isnt confident in teaching the class how is
the teacher going to guide the students in the exact learning area.
- Great diversity of the students throughout the students understanding and
having different skill sets.

Week 9
In class
Advantages and facilitators of individual progression?
-

Allows a person to develop at his or her own rate.

Allows for different abilities
Can be changed and interpreted easier or harder.
Feel Capable to go through with the task if you are only challenging your self
Pushing yourself harder to progress on your own
Increases motivation

Disadvantages and inhibitors of individual progression

-

Limited facilities and equipment

Harder to monitor all students
Could cause behaviour issues
Not able to monitor students and ensure they are learning the skill correctly
Lack of motivation
Limits students personal input

What facilitated your learning as a student in this student centred practical

activity?
Having the initiative to learn by our self with out the teacher and put our own
thoughts into practice and teach other students
What inhibited your learning?
The time by yourself helping our peers with the chosen activity and helping each
other correct one another.
Out of Class
Advantages and facilitators of individual progression?
-

Limited distractions
Non threating environment
Independent progression
Recognise the diversity
Comfortable environment
Opportunity to learn from others
Enhanced empowerment

Disadvantages and inhibitors of individual progression

-

Potential for incorrect skill learning

Limits interpersonal skills

What is the difference between the approached used by the two coaches
you have just seen?
Teaching by command telling this children what to do whilst they are doing it and the
second approach the second approach was similar but the teacher took the student
to the side and spoke to them about what they are doing and hot they can correct
themselves
Does your coaching approach develop any of these attributes?
I believe I use the teaching by command and teaching by task approach. I would
much prefer to use to teaching by task approach as it involves students and makes
them work out what they have to do by themselves.
What is the game sense approach?
Develop tactical and strategy thinking. About doing and not necessarily thinking
When do you focus on technique?
During the game when they are thinking about it, set time aside for individuals to
assist them.

Week 10
Guided Discovery
In class
1. What facilitated your learning as a student in the student centred
practical activity?
Relating this back to last weeks practical lesson we played a game that in the
beginning had no rules, but then proceeded to make different rules our self and I
believe having the ability to change and make the rules our self assisted in people
joining in and playing the game. This assisted my learning by making the rules our
self and actually have control over the game and changing it to a way we like

2. What inhibited your learning?

There were a few of inhibitors through out the lesson as I could see that some of
my peers were getting dis interested in the game itself as it had no rules. I believe
only when some people are told to do something and actually have rules they do it.
Without rules behaviour issues could happen, as you do not have full control over
the class, students that dont have a passion would get dis interested
Out of Class
1. What facilitated your learning as a student in the student centred
practical activity?
Students able to make decisions on how to improve
Gives students independence
Basic and easy to follow
Presenting learning in manageable parts
Enjoyable and manageable
Ensures the students are thinking
Create rules
Ensure equal participation
Social aspects being able to learn from others
Allow students to work in teams
Enhance communication
Spatial Awareness
Leadership
Problem solving
Cooperation

Week 11
25/5/16
Problem Solving
In class
1. What facilitated your learning as s student centred practical
activity?
- Being able to teach others with how we learnt I believe students find it
easier to relate to each other.
- Good communication skills were used
- Basic and easy to follow when breaking down
- Gave students leadership role
- Enhanced communication between students
- Students that didnt have a passion for dancing felt as thought they had a
role as they had to teach so they felt important and felt like they were
important and knew what they were doing.
2. What inhibited your learning?
- Can become dependent on the guidance of the students they may be un
aware of what is going on or how to go about attempting the certain skill.
- Being dependent causes the students to stop thinking for themselves and
just copy,
- Loss of interest as it took so long
- The outcomes of the lesson may not be achieved if the teacher doesnt give
adequate information
3. What are you now learning as a professional teacher about the role
of pedagogy in teaching and learning?
That it is important
Out of class
1. What facilitated your learning as s student centred practical
activity?
- Enables teacher to break class into smaller groups allowing groups to learn
easier
- Chance to work with similarly skilled students
- Greater student independence teacher becomes a facilitator of the
students learning
- Social interaction
- Confidence building
- Public Speaking
- Decision Making
- Learning from others visually and verbally
- Allows for student development
- Empowering students to discover their own answers
2. What inhibited your learning?
- Uncomfortable environment having to demonstrate it
- Student focus and concentration
- Less control over the class
- Behaviour management issues
- Less input from the teacher students may not know hot to progress Important for the teacher to continue to be the facilitator and give assistance
when required
- Cant take up a lot of time
-

Week 12
What facilitated your learning as a student in this student centred
practical activity?
This way of learning I found a lot easier as it was more student centred so we could
take the initiative and do it our self. It was easier to follow steps as they were
broken down individually and I found this a lot easier to follow. It was also good in
the aspect that all people were included and felt as thought they were apart of the
group.
What inhibited your learning?
More dependent on the guidance from others.
Students begin to copy rather than learn the skill them self.
Loss of interest.
What do you consider to be the key idea influencing teaching and student
learning outcomes using these approaches?
The key outcome would be that the students have control over what they learn and
any changes that are made so they feel more apart of the lesson rather then being
told what to do. It gives them self-confidence and leadership.
Teaching can be described as having an active or passive role in
student learning. How would you describe the role of the teacher using
student-centred pedagogies?
Passive role the teachers get to sit back while the children take leadership and take
control over the lesson more.
To what extent was your response deliberative or reactive following the
feedback you received on your teaching in Teaching Module 1 or Teaching
Module 2?
Deliberative as I take on the knowledge that has been given to me to enhance my
understanding and improve on my role next time.
If you found yourself to be more toward the reactive end of the
spectrum, what steps can you take to be more open to feedback in
Teaching Module 2?
All feedback is beneficial.

Week 13
In Workshop 1 you were asked to reflect on what had attracted you to a
career as a Physical Education teacher. Now that you are in the final weeks
of this foundational course, what sort of Physical Education teacher do you
now want to be?
I wish to without all teaching attributes that we have be shows and taught, I dont wish
to be a teacher that shouts commands at my students not making it student centred. I
wish to be a teacher that includes all aspects and makes my lessons students centred
giving the children a go at stepping up and taking some sort of leadership role and
enhancing their communication skills among other skills.
How is this different to your response in Workshop 1?
In work shop 1 I only spoke about the student part of Physical education not thinking
about the teaching aspects at all in week 13 now I believe my thoughts have changed
dramatically and I they differ very widely from what they started at.
In Workshop 1 you were asked to reflect on the following What do you
think is the most important to teach for enjoyment or to teach for
learning? How have you changed your understanding of what this question
is asking?
Reflecting back on workshop 1 I believe I have changed my understanding how I do
want my students to enjoy themselves and I want physical education to be something
they enjoy coming too.
What do you now identify as your preferred teaching pedagogy?
Teaching by task
Explain why you prefer this particular pedagogy with reference to learning
facilitators and inhibitors.
-Behaviour management
- Teaching new concept
-Recognition of safety issues
- Visual learning
-Maintaining student focus/ control
- Broken into sub routines and sub skills
- Allows for some student initiative
-Maintaining curricular requirements
- Increase social opportunities with students
- More in depth in terms of skill developments

How do the three principles of social justice, diversity, and supportive

environments contribute to the pedagogical approach that you prefer for
teaching students in Physical Education?
All three approaches are vitally important, equity and fairness, ensuring everyone has
a fair go and this is all undertaking in a supportive surrounding.

Review of teaching module 2

Georgia Glastonbury and myself taught our module 2 lessons in week 13
lesson 2-4 .Our chosen skill to teach was the defence that is undertaken in
a netball game environment. Working together as a team with Georgia I
believe assisted me in feeling confident to speak in front of the group and
confidently teach the skill we had planned out. Having a partner I found it
easier bounce ideas of one another and this caused the lesson to flow with
ease.
Throughout the lesson I believe that our student learning outcomes were
achieved to a high standard and were well set out on our plan and easy to
follow. This was shown to us by the students enjoying the well planned
out lesson and given feedback from the students themselves. They then
felt confident to go ahead and complete the certain task taught. Other
feedback from the teacher was also given explaining to Georgia and
myself that our student outcomes were achieved well and to a high
standard. Bringing the group in and asking them open ended questions
made the approach taken more student centred and for the group to come
up with their own rules also involved them more.
Critical feedback was given by the group and the teacher. This helped us
develop a better understanding of what to do next time and how to go
about this and how to fix certain activities. A certain aspect that needed to
altered was the time spent on activities this would have bee helped if our
entire group was there to teach our lesson too, however the group and the
teacher liked the way that we made compromises on the spot with the
activities that we had planned. Overall all students stated that they
enjoyed the activities undertaken and they could competently complete
the defence skill with ease.
Overall I believe Georgia and I taught our lesson with ease and flowed on
from one another effortlessly. Although we were faced with dilemmas on

the day we quickly overcame those issues and thought on the spot on how
to change our activities up and make it enjoyable for the group. With the
peer feedback given we can clearly see that the activity was enjoyed and
completed to a high standard. Generally I believe our lesson was planned
out well and well instigated throughout the lesson.
