Why I Write this Book?

So, the idea of writing this Book came into my mind a few times back when I learn some basics of
Virtulazations on the internet so I decide that time I gonna capture my expirence and record in a
book because a day we lots of searching on the internet but after some time we are not be able to
remind all that stuff thats way I write this book so that I can save my stuff and lock my searching
Expirence and knowledge in a book for whole time. Basically the main reason is that I wannt to share
my knowledge which I learn to spend lots of time I try tu Make It Easier which others people which
want to learn the same things in a short time. So0o enough knowledge for the beginners about
Virtulazation on Hyper -V included step by step configuration Thats it.

Virtualization?
Virtualization is a proven software technology that is rapidly transforming the hosting landscape and
fundamentally changing the way that businesses compute. VMware virtualization lets you move away from the
traditional "one server, one application" model to running multiple virtual machines on a single physical server.
Today's applications and operating systems use only a fraction of the resources available on a physical server. This
means that valuable computing power sits idle for long periods of time. Virtualization, via VMware or other
technologies, puts those untapped resources to work for you and reduces your IT costs at the same time.

Describe Virtualization:
Virtualization is defined as the abstraction of objects ("things"), creating a virtual (rather than actual) version of
objects such as a server or storage device. For example, when you partition a hard drive into two partitions - C
and D, say - you create virtual drives but the physical hard drive has not changed.
Similarly, Network attached storage (NAS) presents users with an abstract storage space - a single point of access
to data - though in reality NAS contains many drives and tapes hidden from the end user.
In server virtualization, a software layer is inserted either directly on the physical server (host) hardware or on the
host operating system. This software (also known as hypervisor or virtual machine monitor) allocates hardware
resources (CPU, RAM, storage and networking) and allows a single server to run multiple operating system images
at the same time. Each one of these operating systems is a `virtual server'.
Virtualization allows higher utilization of servers, which usually run at a fraction of their capacity. By replacing
physical servers with virtual ones, and consolidating many together, it is possible to reduce datacenter space,
energy consumption, hardware costs and maintenance personnel. It is also easier to move virtual servers between
hosts to form high availability, fault tolerant or other virtual clusters, thus improving business continuity,
performance and responsiveness.

Virtualization In Hyper-V:

A technology this is the part of window server 2008 & Later.

Hyper-V Server 2008 was released on October 1, 2008.
Create a virtualize server computing environment.
Allow you to create or manage virtual machines.
Allow you to run multiple operating systems on one physical machine.
Isolated (separate) the operating system with each other.
Improve the computer efficiency of your computing resource by utilizing more of your hardware resource

Hyper-V windows 2008 mai eak new technology eak new feature ki tarha introduce kia gaya hy jo k sirf 64 bit
operating system per hi supported hy. Hyper-V hammy full virtualize environment provide karta hy without any
3rd party software. Is ka important benefit ye hy k hamari sari machines virtual hoti hy tu agar hamara physical
server down hojaye ya khrab hojaye to again hammy new computer per sari installation nahi karni karti step by
step hum just apni running virtual machines ko hi apny backup server per run kar sakty hy or is process my zada
time bhi nahi lagta hum apny pory environment ko virtualize kar sakty hy or agar wo cloud per ho tu hum
worldwide ussy kahi sy bhi access kar sakty hy.

Benefits of Using Hyper V:

Reduced the cost of operating and maintaining physical server by increasing your hardware utilization.
You can reduced the amount of hardware needed to run your server workload.
Increase development and test efficiency by reducing the amount of time it take to set up hardware and
software and reproduced test environment.
Improve server availability without using as many physical computers as you would needed in a failure
configuration that uses only physical computer.

Snapshot feature:
Server per kaam karty waqt hum Hyper-V my apny server ki snapshot bhi capture kar sakty hy is my Server hamari
sari working k status ko snapshot my save kar sakta hy or jab hamy apny kessi step ko revert karna ho means back
py janaa ho tu hum us snapshot k throw apny previous task ko run kar sakty hy.
Snapshot means k hum apny server ki state ko as a snap save kar lyty hy or jub hamy us ki need ho to hum
immediately usi state my revert kar sakty hy
Suppose k mera server perfect chal raha hy or agar mai us per koi bhi kaam karny sy phly us server ki eak snapshot
ly lyta hu or apny server per kuch new task perform karny lagta hu tu agar essy my jo my us server per new task
perform kar raha tha agar wo successfully nahi ho pata hy tu my Snapshot revert option k throw bina kessi changes
k apny server ki ussi state my wapas ja sakta hu jo my ny jb capture ki thi jab mera server perfectly working kar
raha tha yani k server per kaam karny sy phly. Is case my mai ny jo bhi changing kari hongi apny server per wo sub
end hojaye gi or server apni original perfect state my wapas revert hojaye ga. So ye feature Network Administrator
k ley bhut helpful hy k agar wo apny network environment my kuch new task perform karna chty hy apny live
Server per tu us sy phly wo apny server ki eak snapshot ly ly taky agar wo task sahi perform na hu saka to snapshot
ko revert kar k apny server ki phli wali state my hi wapas chaly jaye without any trouble.

Network connections in Hyper-V:

Network connection k throw hamari jo virtual machines hy wo network per work karti hy. Is k kuch options hy
sub sy phly jo essy manage karta hy us tool ko kehty hy NVM yani (Network Virtual Manager).

Network Virtual Manager:

Most network functionality is configured through the use of the Network Virtual Manager.

Connection types NVM:

Three Primary option/types of Network Connection in Hyper-V:

1) External Virtual Network

Bind to a physical network adapter & allow virtual machines to communicate with system on the physical
network and the internet, if routing to the internet is in place.
Physical machine or Virtual machine donu hi same network card ko use karty hy

2) Internal Virtual Network

Allow communication only between virtual machines or that same virtual network & same virtual machines
on the Hyper-V host this is useful when you need to isolated a network from other.
Only virtual machines is card ko use karti hy or in ka same subnet my hona bhi lazmi hy. Physical machines
is card ko use nahi karti jis sy virtual machines or physical machine separate rehti hy

3) Private Virtual Network

Similar to an internal one but does not allow communication between the Hyper-V host and the individual
virtual machines on the private network. Adds an additional layer of security to both the Hyper-V host and
the virtual machine.
Create a virtual network that can be used only by the virtual machines that run in the physical computer
Every virtual network configured has to be one of these types.

Hyper-V Virtual Hard Disk:

Types of Virtual Hard Drive in Hyper-V,

1) Fixed virtual hard disk

Provide storage capacity a .vhd file.

With sized specified when the disk is created. The sized of the .vhd file remains Fixed regardless the
amount of data stored.
You can increase the size of virtual hard drive.
Is category my HDD ka Sized allocate karty hi foren hard drive ka space assign hojata hy or wo
hammy actual size show karta hy jo hum ny configured kia hy.

2) Dynamically expanding hard disk

Provide storage capacity as needed to store data.

The sized of the .vhd file is small when the disk is created.
Grows as data is added to the disk
The sized of the .vhd file does not shrink automatically when data is deleted.
You can compact the disk to decrease the file size after data is deleted.
Is category my sized allocate hojata hy per space utna hi show karta hy jitna k hard drive use kar rhi
hu matlab jitna Data HDD my huga HDD utna hi space hammy show kary gi for more detail show
picture below.

3) Difference virtual hard disk

Provide storage to enable you to make changes to a parent virtual hard drive without altering that
disk.
The sized of .vhd file for a differencing disk grow as changes are stored to the disk.
Hard drive save in a different location.

Configuration of Hyper-V Step by Step:

Configuration of Hyper-V on Server 2008 R2.
Perform the following steps to install Hyper-V
1. Click Start > Server Manager

2.

From the left side panel inside Server Manager, click on Roles

The Roles page will open, where it shows you the number of roles you have installed on your machine,
Click on Add Roles.
4. The Add Roles Wizard page will open, click on Next
3.

5. From the list of roles available, select Hyper-V > Click Next

6. The Introduction to Hyper-V page will open, take a few moments to read it , and then click on Next

7. The Create Virtual Networks page will open, You can create many virtual networks on your virtualization
server to provide a variety of communications channels. For example, you can create networks to provide
the following:

Communications between virtual machines only.

Communications between the virtualization server and virtual machines.
Communications between a virtual machine and a physical network by creating an association to a
physical network adapter on the virtualization server.
You can either select the Network Adapter that will be attached with the Virtual machines now, or you
can do this later using the Virtual Network Manager , Click Next
You use the Virtual Network Manager to add, remove, and modify the virtual networks. The Virtual
Network Manager is available from Hyper-V Manager.
As a best practice, it is recommended that you have at least two network adapters on your machine, so
that one of the Network adapters is used by the host, and the other network adapter is used by the guest
virtual machines

8. On the Confirm Installation Selection page, click Install

9. Installation will be initialized and once completed, you will be informed that a restart is required,

click Close.

10. You will be asked if you want to restart your server now, click Yes

11. Once you log on again to your machine, the installation will resume, and then on the installation result

page, you will get notified if the installation encountered any errors or it was completed successfully >
Click Close

Creating a Snapshot
Figure 1 shows the Hyper-V Manager console with a single running VM before the creation of the first snapshot.
In order to create a snapshot, you just highlight the VM, then right-click and select the Snapshot menu option.

Figure 1: Creating a snapshot in Hyper-V Manager

The Hyper-V Manager Snapshots pane displays a tree structure to represents the VM snapshot hierarchy, as shown
in Figure 2. The root node of the tree is the first snapshot that was created. Under the root node, there is a child
named Now which represents the running version of the VM. By default, snapshots are labeled using the VM name
concatenated with the creation timestamp. In order to rename the snapshot, highlight it, then right-click and
select rename from the menu.

Figure 2: Hyper-V Manager Snapshot Pane Display

Within a snapshot hierarchy, with each new snapshot that is taken, the active AVHD is detached from the VM,
and becomes the parent of a new child AVHD that is attached to the VM and captures changes to the VM data
until the next snapshot is created.
For more details on the snapshot creation process, you can refer to my previous article, Understanding and Using
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V Snapshots, and video, Using Hyper-V Snapshots.

Using the Revert Option

Using the Revert option allows you to return the VM to the state of the last snapshot that was taken. For example,
in Figure 3, you can see that three snapshots were captured for the Win2008 VM. Each snapshot was renamed to
indicate the order and state of the VM when the snapshot was taken. The VM was running during Snapshot 1 and
Snapshot 2, but powered-off for Snapshot 3, and then restarted when Snapshot 3 was completed. The last object in
the hierarchy, marked by Now, indicates the running VM.

Figure 3: Hyper-V Manager Snapshot Hierarchy

If the Revert option is selected, the configuration and state of the VM are returned to the settings saved in Snapshot
3, since it is the last snapshot that was taken. During the Revert process, the VM is stopped, the current AVHD is
deleted, and a new AVHD is created. The VM configuration saved during the snapshot is restored and the name
of the new AVHD is updated in the VM configuration file. Because the virtual machine was powered-off when
Snapshot 3 was taken, there are no save state files to load and the virtual machine remains powered-off, as shown
in Figure 4. It is important to stress that when a Revert is performed, all configuration modifications made to the
running VM since the snapshot was taken are discarded. However, you can make changes to the memory,
processor, virtual hard disk adapter, or any other VM hardware setting, when the Revert has completed.

Figure 4: Hyper-V Manager View after Revert to Snapshot 3

Another thing to note in Figure 4 is that the snapshot hierarchy view did not change after the Revert was
performed. That is expected since none of the snapshots are altered during this operation. However, using the
Revert option again will continue to return the VM to the configuration and state of the last snapshot taken. In
this sense, the snapshot Revert feature can be thought of as a single-level undo feature. It cannot be used repeatedly
to traverse up the snapshot hierarchy. In the current example, if the VM must be returned to the configuration
and state of Snapshot 1 or Snapshot 2, the Apply option must be used.

Using the Apply Option

As shown in Figure 5, to return to a snapshot that is higher than one level up from the running VM (represented
by the Now marker in the Snapshot pane), you must highlight the snapshot, right-click, and choose the Apply
option from the menu. If you did not create a snapshot of the running virtual machine, you are prompted to do so
prior to the Apply operation, or you can choose to continue and apply the selected snapshot without saving the
current configuration and state. Just as in the case of the Revert option, if you do not take a snapshot prior to the
Apply operation, the running virtual machine configuration and state will be lost.

Figure 5: Using the Snapshot Apply Option in Hyper-V Manager

The snapshot Apply process is similar to the Revert process. The virtual machine is stopped, the active AVHD is
deleted, and a new AVHD is created. The snapshot virtual machine configuration is restored and the name of the
new AVHD is updated in the VM configuration file. As shown in Figure 6, the virtual machine is then restarted,
and the save state files (.vsv and .bin) are loaded.

Figure 6: Hyper-V Manager Snapshot Hierarchy after Apply of Snapshot 2

You can also see in Figure 6 that the Now marker moved right under Snapshot 2 to indicate that the running VM
is based on Snapshot 2. At this point, if a new snapshot is created, it is placed in the Snapshot 2 hierarchy. After
the Apply is performed, Snapshot 2 essentially represents a subtree in the snapshot hierarchy, as shown in Figure

Figure 7: Hyper-V Manager Snapshot Hierarchy with the Snapshot 2 Subtree

Using the Snapshot Delete Option

If you decide that you no longer need a snapshot or snapshot subtree, Hyper-V provides two different Delete
options to permanently remove one or more snapshots from the snapshot hierarchy, as shown in Figure 8.

Figure 8: Hyper-V Manager Delete Snapshot and Delete Snapshot Subtree Options

Creating a New Hyper-V Virtual Network

Hyper-V virtual networks are created and managed using the Virtual Network Manager. To access this tool, begin
by launching the Hyper-V Manager (Start->Administrative Tools->Hyper-V Manager). Unless the Hyper-V
Manager is already connected to the required Hyper-V Server, connect to the appropriate server in the left hand
panel by right clicking on Hyper-V Manager in the left hand panel and selecting Connect to Server.... Once
connected, click on the Virtual Network Manager... link in the Actions panel. Once loaded, the manager dialog
will appear as follows:

The left hand pane in the Virtual Network Manager contains a list of existing virtual networks configured on the
selected Hyper-V server. In the above example, two external virtual networks are configured. At the top of the list
is the option to Add Virtual Network which, when selected, provides the option to add
an External, Internal or Private virtual network. Once the virtual network type has been selected, the main panel
will change to display the virtual network settings screen:
