ThetermMULTIMEDIAwasfirstusedbyBOB
GOLDSTEIN inJuly1996topromoteopeningofhislight
works.
In1970sthetermwasusedtodescribepresentations
consistingofmulti-projectorslideshowstimedtoanaudio
track.
In1990smultimediatookonitscurrentmeaning.
TAY VAUGHAN declaredMultimediaascombinationof
text,graphicart,sound,animation,andvideothatisdelivered
bycomputer.

Elements of Multimedia :
1. Text
Textisanessentialaspectofpresentingtheinformation.
Text is the most widely used and flexible means of
presentinginformationonscreenandconveyingideas.
Likeeachelementofthemultimediadesign,effective
useoftextcaneitherdirectusers/readersattentionor
divertit.

2. Sound
Audio refers to sound. Multimedia can include files
whichcontainsounds.
Audiosongsalsocomeundertheheadingmultimedia.
Multimedia presentations often have some audio
trackswhichmakesiteasierforpeopletounderstand.
Multimedia phones have music players to run audio
music.
VariousaudiosoftwareincludeVLCmediaplayer,real
player,etc.

3.Graphics :
Graphics (images) is a two-dimensional screen display,
and as well as a three-dimensional, such as
astatueorhologram.
Graphs,pie-charts,paintingetc.allcomeunderimages.
Graphics are a very useful feature of multimedia.
Multimedia presentation uses pictures or clip-art to make
peopleunderstand.
Variousfileformatsofimagesare.jpg,.png,.gifetc.

4.Video
A video is unedited material as it had been originally
filmedbymoviecameraorrecordedbyavideocamera.
The embedding of video in multimedia applications is a
powerful way to convey information which can
incorporateapersonalelementwhichothermedialack.
Video enhances, dramatizes, and gives impact to your
multimediaapplication.
The advantage of integrating video into a multimedia
presentation is the capacity to effectively convey a great
dealofinformationintheleastamountoftime.

5.Animation
Animationistherapiddisplayofasequenceofimages

createanillusionofmovement.

Interactivity can be termed as the dialog that occurs

Technologies such as DVDs and digital TV are classic

examples of interactive media devices, where a user can


controlwhattheywatchandwhen.

In the field of education multimedia is being used extensively

especiallyforonlinecoursesandtrainings.

Design could benefit tremendously from open and collaborative

multimedia research.
Multimedia and graphics can be a very effective tool to

communicate, educate, compel, and convince you and/or your


audience.
Multimedia can help to gain and hold attention, make points

clearer, stimulate discussion, and in general, enhance the learning


process,ifitalsoincludestheappropriatehumanelements.
