COMMANDMENTS OF MESSIAH

Yahoshua said Resist Not Evil, Go The Second Mile

YAHOSHUA THE PROPHET
We are told in Deuteronomy 18 that YHVH was going to raise up a Prophet like unto
Moses and we are commanded to listen and hearken to the words of this Prophet. In
the day of judgment we WILL give an account of whether we listened and followed
the words of this Prophet or did not listen to His words and disobeyed! The word that
YHVH sends forth from His mouth shall not return back unto Him void, but it will
accomplish that which He pleases and shall prosper in the thing wherein He sent it
(Isaiah 55:11). YHVHs word will either soften or harden the hearts of people.
Deuteronomy 18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto
thee, and will put My words in His mouth; and He shall speak unto them all that
I shall command Him.
19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto My words which He
shall speak in My name, I will require it of him.
Acts 3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall YHVH your Elohim
(God) raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto Me; Him shall you hear in all
things whatsoever He shall say unto you.
23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be
destroyed from among the people.
John 12:47 And if any man hear My words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came
not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He that rejecteth Me, and receiveth not My words, hath one that judgeth him: the
word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
John 12:49 For I have not spoken of Myself; but the Father which sent Me, He gave Me
a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 And I know that His commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak
therefore, even as the Father said unto Me, so I speak.
When Yahvah brought Israel out of the land of Egypt, He made a covenant with them and
promised to take care of them if they would abide in His covenant. Since they did not
abide in His covenant, He told them that He would make a NEW COVENANT with the
house of Israel and the house of Judah, NOT ACCORDING TO THE (OLD)
COVENANT when He brought them out of Egypt! The First Covenant was ratified with
the shedding of the blood of the animal lamb. The New Covenant is also ratified (put in
force) by the shedding of the blood of the Lamb of Yahvah, when He was crucified!
There has been a change of the Covenant from the first to the second! That is why it is so
important to hear and heed the words of the Covenant Maker! Yahoshuas words take
precedence and will be required of us at the judgment day!

RESIST NOT EVIL

The philosophy in todays society is to look out for #one (yourself) and dont worry about
anyone else because they arent worrying about you. You have heard in the news about
different events when someone cried out Fire and when the crowd stampeded out of
the building, many were trampled and even killed in the mad rush! Why? Where is the
respect for other people? The Golden Rule is do unto others as you would have them
do unto you. NOT do to them before they do to you!
Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever you would that men should do to you,
do you even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
In the Old Covenant there werent prisons or jails like there is today. The reason was that
justice and punishment was handed out at the time of the crime or as soon as the crime
was solved. This would put a fear of being punished in people and stop the evil that they
were doing or make people think twice before they did the evil.
Exodus 21:22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from
her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the
womans husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
26 And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he
shall let him go free for his eyes sake.
27 And if he smite out his manservants tooth, or his maidservants tooth; he shall let him
go free for his tooths sake.
Leviticus 24: 17 And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death.
18 And he that killeth a beast shall make it good; beast for beast.
19 And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to
him;
20 Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man,
so shall it be done to him again.
Deuteronomy 19:19 Then shall you do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his
brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
Cities of Refuge For Accidental Killing
Numbers 35:11 Then you shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the
slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares. (accidentally)!
12 And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die
not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.
15 These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger,
and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares

may flee thither.

25 And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of
blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was
fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed
with the holy oil.
The avenger had the right according to the law to avenge the evil that had been done to
them or their relative, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning
for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe, life for life, according as the judges
determination after the investigation.
YAHVAH IS OUR AVENGER
When Yahoshua came as this Prophet to be the Son of Yahvah, we are commanded to
hear His teaching and if we will not hear His teaching, we would be cut off or destroyed
(Deuteronomy 18:18,19; Acts 3:22,23). He told His disciples DO NOT RESIST THE
EVIL that has been done to you! If we are to obey Yahoshua, we now DO NOT have
the right to avenge for evil done to us! This vengeance right is only given to the Creator.
Matthew 5:38 You have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for
a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That you resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy
right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy
cloke also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou
away.
Even though in the Old Covenant the avenger had the right to avenge for the evil done to
them, Yahoshua was trying to establish a new directive for His followers. Rather than
focusing on the retaliation for the wrongs done, He wanted them to concentrate on
demonstrating Yahvahs love to the offenders!.
YAHOSHUAS EXAMPLE
Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not his mouth: He is
brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He
openeth not His mouth.
I Peter 2:21 For even hereunto were you called: because Messiah also suffered for us,
leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth:
23 Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened
not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously:

When Yahoshua was crucified, what did He say about those that crucified Him? Father,
forgive them; for they know NOT what they do. (Luke 23:34). Since we are bought
with the price of the blood of Yahoshua, we are not our own, we belong to Him. In just
plain words, He owns us and the only rights we have are only what He gives us. So to be
a true follower we must do what ever He commands us by living His example.
Romans 12:17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight
of all men.
18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is
written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith YHVH.
Romans 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Nahum 1:2 Elohim is jealous, and YHVH revengeth; YHVH revengeth, and is furious;
YHVH will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserveth wrath for His
enemies.
3 YHVH is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked:
YHVH hath His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of
His feet.
Hebrews 10:30 For we know Him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto Me, I will
recompense, saith YHVH. And again, YHVH shall judge his people.
RESIST THE EVIL ONE, THE DEVIL
Even though Yahoshua commanded us not to resist the evil that people do to us, yet He
resisted the evil one (Satan) in Matthew when He was tempted to sin and we are to do the
same as He did. James said that we are to resist the devil and he will flee from us! So it is
our commission to resist the devil! People who are causing us evil are not devils even
though the devil is sometimes working through them.
Matthew 4:10 Then saith Yahoshua unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written,
Thou shalt worship YHVH thy Elohim (God), and Him only shalt thou serve.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to Elohim (God). Resist the devil, and he will
flee from you.
Ephesians 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.
OUR BATTLE IS NOT AGAINST PEOPLE
II Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through Elohim [God] to
the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the
knowledge of Elohim [God], and bringing into captivity every thought to the
obedience of Messiah;

6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is

fulfilled.
Yahoshua commanded us to even love our enemies even though they are persecuting us
and though we do not like the sin our enemies are living in. Maybe through our kindness
and love they may be won to salvation through Yahoshua our Savior
WORLDLY GOVERNMENTS ESTABLISHED TO AVENGE
Yahvah has raised up the governments of the world to use them to punish mankind for
their sin and then afterward turn around to also punish the nation that He raised up to use.
An example of this is the Babylon empire was used to punish Israel for their sin of
idolatry, whoredom and adulteries all through the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel.
He called Cyrus, My shepherd, His anointed (Isaiah 44:28; 45:1). In Romans
9:17; Exodus 9:16 Yahvah said that He raised up Pharaoh that He might show His power
in him and that His Name might be declared throughout all the earth!
Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but
of Elohim (God): the powers that be are ordained of Elohim.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of Elohim (God):
and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid
of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of Elohim (God) to thee for good. But if thou do that which
is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of
Elohim (God), a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5 Wherefore you must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience
sake.
6 For, for this cause pay you tribute also: for they are Yahvahs ministers, attending
continually upon this very thing.
Psalms 110:1 YHVH said unto my Adonai (Lord), Sit thou at my right hand, until I make
thine enemies thy footstool.
5 Adonai at Thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of His wrath.
These governments are ordained by Yahvah to keep the evil in check. We are not to resist
these governments as long as they are not causing us to sin or we are resisting the
ordinance of Yahvah. He will take care of the evil in the government in His time schedule
just as He has in the past. Daniel said that Yahvah the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of
men, and giveth it to whomsoever He will (Daniel 4:17, 25, 32). He setteth up kings and
He removeth them (Daniel 2:21).
FOUR THINGS MENTIONED NOT TO RESIST
There are many more kinds of evil that man can do to us that we are not to resist but there
are only four things mentioned in these verses in Matthew 5:38-42 to cover.

#1 a smite (slap) on the cheek. We need to go back and see the example that Yahoshua
gave us under these conditions. Before He was crucified and while still on trial the
soldiers blindfolded Him and smote him on the face and told Him to prophecy and tell
who was the one that smote Him (Luke 22:64). But He did not retaliate at all, neither did
He rebuke. He opened not His mouth. He told us to turn the other cheek and offer it to be
smitten also.
Paul was taken before the council and he told them, Men and brethren, I have lived in all
good conscience before Elohim until this day. The high priest Ananias commanded them
that stood by to smite him on the mouth. Even though Ananias commanded him to be
smitten contrary to the law, Paul apologized for speaking against the high priest!
Acts 23:3 Then said Paul unto him, Elohim (God) shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for
sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to
the law?
4 And they that stood by said, Revilest thou the high priest of Elohim?
5 Then said Paul, I knew not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written,
Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.
Exodus 22:28 Thou shalt not revile the gods (the judges), nor curse the ruler of thy
people.
Here in Exodus 22:28 the word elohim = (gods) is used for judges just as it is used
other places for the prophets of Yahvah (John 10:35; Psalms 82:6,7; Exodus 7:1).
#2 a lawsuit. If we are taken to court in a lawsuit and the other party wins the suit,
Yahoshua said to give MORE than what is required. He told us in Matthew 5:25,26 we
should make a settlement of a dispute before they take us to court, otherwise we might
be cast into prison and we could not even get out until we have paid the very last cent!
#3 a government regulation. During the time of the Savior, the Romans passed a law
that when a Roman soldier was carrying a heavy back-pack and came up to an Israelite
and told the Israelite to carry the back-pack for him, the requirement of the law was to
carry it for one mile. Yahoshua said that instead of only carrying it the one mile
requirement, show your love and courtesy to even your enemy by carrying the backpack two miles!
#4 a needy neighbor. There are many people in need today for many reasons. The
Scriptures teach us that we who are able are to work with our hands that we might have to
help those truly in need who cant work. What is the teaching of Yahoshua? Paul said that
Yahoshua taught him, and he said for those who are truly in need:
Ephesians 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working
with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that
needeth.

Then Paul said there are many lazy busy bodies who refuse to work. They are freeloaders
just working the system so that they dont have to work and think that everything should
be handed to them on a platter and that everyone owes them something for nothing:
II Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that
if any would not work, neither should he eat.
11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at
all, but are busybodies.
12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Master Yahoshua
Messiah, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
CONCLUSION
Instead of getting even or returning evil for the evil that is done to us, we are to return
good for evil.
I Peter 3:9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing;
knowing that you are thereunto called, that you should inherit a blessing.
Yahoshua wants us to learn and know the simple A B C Ds of Yahvahs commands. That
means living a life ABOVE and BEYOND the CALL of DUTY! Doing always more
than what is our duty or requirement. That is going the extra mile in everything we
say and do.
Galatians 6: 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if
we faint not.
10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them
who are of the household of faith.
II Thessalonians 3:13 But you, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be you stedfast, unmoveable,
always abounding in the work of Yahvah, forasmuch as you know that your labour
is not in vain in Yahvah.
