ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

Position Qualifications Required

PhD Degree plus Masters and Bachelors Degree with appropriate

(GPA ≥ 4.0 for Masters by Coursework and dissertation plus an
upper second class undergraduate level degree) with relevant
Lecturer teaching experience. OR
PhD Degree plus Masters by Research plus GPA ≥ 3.8 at Bachelor
Degree level. with relevant teaching experience
For unclassified degrees overall average of B grade and above.

Senior • PhD Degree plus Masters and Bachelors Degree with

Lecturer appropriate GPA’s and relevant teaching experience
• Must have at least 6 publications since his/her last
promotion.
• 50% of the publications i.e. papers, articles must be
published in international or referred journals.
• In case of the co-authored paper, 50% of those publications,
he/she must be the main author.

Associate • PhD Degree plus Masters and Bachelors Degree with

Professor appropriate GPA’s and relevant teaching and research
experience
• Must have at least 10 points of publications since his/her last
promotion.
• 80% of the publications i.e. papers, articles must be
published in international or referred journals.
• 60% of those publications, must be single authored or he/she
is the main author in case of the co-authored paper
• Must have at least 4 papers in referred international
journals

Job Description:
Professor / Associate professor/ Senior lecturer/ Lecturer:

• Conducting research and develop niche areas

• Teaching to undergraduate students/ graduates/ postgraduate students
• Undertake all administration work as required for teaching and research purposes
• Have excellent people skills towards student, parents and colleagues
• Supervise and promote research
• Involved in all administrative and academic activities of the department

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT FOR THE ACADEMIC STAFF

The University of Dodoma offers employment appointments to experts on the terms and
conditions set out here under:-

1. Designation:
The level of entry (e.g. Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer and Lecturer) will be
based on one’s qualifications, publications, experience.

2. Tenure:
The appointment is on contract terms for two years renewable by mutual agreement. The
period of two years includes 3 months of paid leave at the end of the contract. In the event an
employee decides to terminate his/her services with the University before the expiry of his/her
contract, paid leave will be granted to him/her on a pro-rata basis.

3. Probation:
The employee will initially be on probation for a period of six months, at the end of which and
subject to his/her work and conduct being satisfactory, he/she will be eligible for confirmation
in his/her appointment.

5. Duties:
Academic staff is responsible to Deputy Vice Chancellor- Academic, Research and
Consultancy for the performance of their duties.

6. Travel Assistance:
The employer will provide travel assistance to the employee and his/her spouse on
appointment and termination of appointment in accordance with the applicable provisions of
the Terms and Conditions of Services of the University of Dodoma. The entitlement is as a
general rule by economy class air only. In the event the staff, voluntarily terminates his/her
appointment within six months after taking up the contract, the staff will be required to
refund one half of the cost of passages which the University will have incurred on his/her
behalf. If on the other hand, the staff voluntarily terminates his/her appointment thereafter
and before the expiry of the contract the staff will not be granted return passages.

7. Baggage allowance:
The staff will be given allowance of 50 kilos unaccompanied by air or 80 cubic feet by sea on
appointment and termination of appointment. The provisions of paragraph 6 shall apply
mutatis muntandis in relation to baggage allowance.

8. Housing:
The staff will be provided with free housing.

9. Gratuity
The staff will be entitled to twenty-five per centum (25%) of his/her salary upon satisfactory
completion of the contract subject to withholding for such income tax as may be payable
thereon.

10. Medical Benefits:

The University of Dodoma will provide free medical treatment to the staff and his/her family,
except dentures and spectacles.

11. Termination:
Either party may terminate the appointment by giving to the other party three months’ notice
in writing of the intention to do so or paying the equivalent of one month’s gross salary in lieu
thereof

12. Contract Renewal:

The parties may, subject to agreement on the terms and conditions thereof, renew the
contract upon the service by one to the other of not less than six months notice of renewal in
writing.
