Singeing
 Singeing Objectives:
 Singeing is the process if burning off of…
 Loose fibres that are not firmly bound into the
yarn/Fabric.
 Loose yarns not firmly bound into fabric structure.
 Protruding fibre ends sticking out of yarn/Fabric.
Singeing
 Singeing Advantages:
To obtain a clean fabric surface.
To remove soil from the fabric easily.
To reduce risk of pilling in synthetic & their
blends.
To get the fine printing.
To reduce risk of skittery dying.
To reduce the diffused reflection of light after
dyeing.

 Types of singeing Machines:
There are three types of singeing machine..
Plate singeing machine.
Rotary-cylinder singeing machine.
Gas singeing machine.
Singeing
 Plate singeing machine:
It has copper plates of thickness range from 1 to 2
inches.
Heating of plates is done by suitable burning
arrangement of gas mixed with air.
Plates are heated to red hot.
Then cloth pass over & in contact with these
plates.
Speed of cloth passes over plate ranges from 150-
250 yards per minute.
Singeing
 Rotary-cylinder sigeing machine:
It has rotary cylinder made of copper or cast iron.
The rotary cylinder has internal firing.
It rotates slowly with constant speed.
Direction of rotation of cylinder is opposite to
direction of fabric.
This singeing machine is suitable for velvet &
other pile fabric.
Singeing
 Gas singeing machine:
In this type of singeing machine fabric passes
over a burning gas flame.
Fabric passes at such a speed that only the
protruding fibers burn.
Most common type of singeing machine used for
singe fabric as well as yarn.
Singeing
 Main parts of singeing machine:
Tension unit with guide rollers.
Pre-drying cylinder.
Pre-brushing unit with suction.
Singeing chamber with exhaust.
Water cooled roller.
Water cooled burner.
Singeing
 Main parts of singeing machine:(cont.)
Carburetor with blower.
Stem quenching device.
Post brushing with suction(optional).
De-sizing unit.
Squeezing mangle.
