Symptom

Not able to specify the Central Management Server System

database in Central Configuration Manager.

Reproducing the Issue

● BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1

● Windows Server 2003/2008 (64-bit)
● Oracle Database (64-Bit)

Cause

● By default the BusinessObjects is installed at "<installation directory>\Program

Files (x86)\...#
● The networking layer is unable to parse program locations that contain
parenthesis in the path to the executable which is attempting to connect to
Oracle.
● This is an Oracle bug (3807408) while connecting to 64-bit windows server.
Oracle cannot process parentheses in the path.

Resolution

The default installation of BusinessObjects would be "<installation

directory>\Program Files (x86), install BusinessObjects in a directory
without parentheses in the path.
