Notes and Recommendations
1. Read through the entire instruction set before
beginning work.
2. Let the engine cool completely.
3. Clean the area around the supercharger to prevent any
contamination during removal. Use compressed air to
remove dirt from the engine valley.
4. The procedure takes about 4 hours.
5. Retain all hardware for reinstallation. Note where it is
used if necessary.

Section II – Removal Procedure

NOTE: Pictures may vary slightly between


applications.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the
battery.
2. Make a sketch or a note of all hoses & cables
attached to the supercharger unit. The diagram
on Page 4 may help.
3. Solara only: Remove the strut tower brace.
4. Remove the engine cover. Retain the factory
fasteners for reinstallation (Figure 2).

5. Remove the vent hose from the cam cover


(Arrow A, Figure 3). B
6. Loosen the clamps from the throttle body air
intake tube and remove it (B Arrows, Figure 3).

7. Use a 3/8” long-handle ratchet to rotate the


dynamic tensioner counterclockwise to remove
the supercharger drive belt from the
supercharger pulley. It is not necessary to
remove the belt from the vehicle completely.
8. Refer to Figure 4 on the next page and
disconnect the following from the supercharger
assembly:
x Brake booster hose (factory)
x Boost actuator hose (7/32” x 12”)
x Vacuum tank inlet hose (7/32” x 12”)
x EGR valve hose (3mm x 15”)
x VSV hose (3mm x 12”)
x VSV hose (factory)

9. Unclip the spark plug wire loom.


10. Remove the two VSV rack nuts and lay the rack
to one side.
11. Unplug the connectors from the throttle position
sensor (Arrow A, Figure 5) and the idle air A
control valve (Arrow B, Figure 5).
12. Unplug the connectors from the EGR position
sensor and the EGR gas temperature sensor on
the EGR valve.

13. Remove the two bolts and two nuts from the
throttle body (Figure 6). Remove the throttle
body from the supercharger intake plenum and
set it aside.
NOTE: Do not disconnect any cables.
14. Disconnect the EGR pipe and valve from the
supercharger manifold.

15. Remove the chamber stay from the driver’s side


of the supercharger (Figure 7).

16. Remove the power steering line from the


passenger’s side of the supercharger (Circle,
Figure 8).
17. Remove the ground strap from the supercharger
(Arrow A, Figure 8).
18. Remove the passenger’s side engine hanger
from the supercharger (Arrow B, Figure 8).

19. Remove the bolt retaining the ground wire to the


supercharger nose drive (Figure 9).
20. Remove the two Allen bolts and the two nuts
retaining the supercharger to the engine.
21. Cover the intake ports with a clean shop towel
or tape to prevent any debris from getting in the
engine.

Section III –Oil Change Procedure

1. Use the pattern in Figure 10 to remove the nose 3 1


drive attachment bolts.
2. Place the supercharger over a drain pan to catch
the oil as the nose drive is removed. 7
3. Use a soft rubber mallet to gently tap on 5
perimeter edge of the nose drive to loosen the
gasket seal. Use gradual back and forth motions
to pull the nose drive assembly from the
supercharger.

4. Remove the Phenolic block from the


supercharger gear by pulling it straight off of the
attachment pins (Figure 11).
5. Wipe the gasket-sealing surface clean and
remove all debris.
CAUTION: Avoid contaminating the supercharger
gear housing with any debris.

6. Insert the new Phenolic block over the


attachment pins.
CAUTION: Insert the attachment pins only into the
holes with flanged openings (Arrows, Figure 12).
These flanges must touch the surface of the drive
gear.
7. Press the Phenolic block until it seats against the
gear.

8. Spread the TRD-supplied Locktitetm Gasket


Eliminator Sealant to the sealing surface of the
nose drive assembly (Figure 13).
9. Align the nose drive gear pins (Figure 13) to the
holes with flanged openings on the Phenolic
block (refer to Figure 12) and press the block
into position (Figure 14).
10. Replace the 7 bolts removed in Step 1 on Page
7. Use the pattern in Figure 10 to tighten the
drive assembly evenly. Torque the bolts to 20
ft-lbs.

11. Tilt the supercharger assembly up but be careful


not to damage the boost actuator. Use a 3/16”
Allen wrench to remove the fill plug (see Figure
Remove
15).

12. Fill the reservoir with the supplied fluid (Figure fill with oil
15). Use all of the oil provided (100 ml).
13. Install the new fill plug.

Section IV – Supercharger Installation

1. Remove the cover from the engine. Make sure


the gasket is properly placed and no hoses or
wires are in the way.
2. Attach the ground wires to the drive assembly
and install the bolt (Figure 16). Torque the bolt
to 20 ft-lbs.

3. Install the PCV valve hose to the supercharger


assembly and put it in place on the engine
(Figure 17). Install the two bolts and two nuts
removed in Step 20 on Page 6 but leave them
finger tight at this time.

4. Attach the ground wire to the back of the
supercharger (Arrow A, Figure 18). Torque the
bolt to 12 ft-lbs.
5. Attach the passenger’s side engine hanger to the
back of the supercharger (Arrow B, Figure 18).
Leave the bolt finger tight at this time.

6. On the driver’s side, install the chamber stay


over the stud and collar using the washer and
locknut (Figure 19). Leave finger tight at this
time.
7. Torque the supercharger nuts and bolts to 32 ft-
lbs. Torque the passenger’s side engine hanger
to 29 ft-lbs and install the power steering line
onto the stud (Circle, Figure 18). Torque the
nut to 69 in-lbs. Torque the driver’s side
chamber stay to 14 ft-lbs.

8. Install the EGR valve and gasket on the


supercharger assembly (Figure 20). Leave the
bolts finger tight at this time.
9. Connect the EGR pipe and gasket to the EGR
valve. Torque the EGR valve and pipe bolts to
9 ft-lbs.

10. Install the brake servo vacuum hose to the


fitting on the air intake chamber (Figure 21).

11. Place the throttle body and gasket. Install the
EGR gas temperature bracket with the two nuts
and two bolts (Figure 22). Torque the hardware
to 14 ft-lbs.

12. Plug in the connectors to the throttle position A


sensor (Arrow A, Figure 23) and the idle air
control valve (Arrow B, Figure 23).
13. Plug in the connectors to the EGR gas
temperature sensor and the EGR position
sensor.

14. Install the VSV rack.
15. Reattach the spark plug wire loom.
16. Use Figure 4 on Page 4 to reconnect the
remaining hoses.
17. Use a 3/8” long-handle ratchet to rotate the
dynamic tensioner counterclockwise to replace Figure 23
the supercharger drive belt over the
supercharger pulley. A
18. Install the throttle body air intake tube and
tighten the clamps (A Arrows, Figure 24).
19. Connect the vent hose to the cam cover (Arrow
B, Figure 3).

20. Use the diagrams made in Step 2 on Page 2 to
connect and check all vacuum hoses, cables and A
brackets.
21. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
22. Start the engine and check for leaks. Figure 24
22. Solara only: Replace the strut tower brace.
Torque the nuts to 59 ft-lbs.
23. Replace the engine cover (Figure 25).
