IMPROVING EXERCISES 9
I. Read the passage and answer the following questions
If you’d had enough of helping out with the housework, then a robot could be the answer.
Wakamaru, made by Mitsubishi, has been designed to make people’s lives easier by doing jobs for them and
helping them remember things they have to do. Mitsubishi think the robot will be ideal for elderly people who
need help around the house and it will also act as an hi-tech burglar alarm. If it is on its own, a robot hears a
loud noise or sees anything unusual, it is programmed to e-mail its owner to let them know there is a problem. It
is so clever that when its batteries run out, normally after two hours, Wakamaru knows that it needs to recharge
itself, so it does.
Mind you, all that does not come cheap, so if you have got your eyes on one, you will have to have a spare
£5,000 to pay for it.
