2-3
1) AN/PEQ-2A Assembly
The AN/PEQ-2A Assembly is a compact,
lightweight advanced electro-optical assembly
which provides both a highly collimated beam of
infrared energy for weapon aiming and an
adjustable focus infrared beam for target
illumination.
Thumbscrew
The thumbscrew is included in the AN/PEQ-2A
Assembly and is used to secure the AN/PEQ-2A to
all the mounts and brackets (except for the RIS
Adapter).
2-4
2) Rail Grabber Mounting Bracket
The Rail Grabber enables the AN/PEQ-2A
Assembly to be attached to all standard weapon
mounting rails as defined by MIL-STD-1913.
3) Neck Cord
The lanyard is used for portability of the AN/PEQ-
2A. With the lanyard the operator can secure the
AN/PEQ-2A to his wrist or around his neck.
4) Carrying Bag
The AN/PEQ-2A is supplied with a carrying bag.
The bag neatly holds all components and is easily
attached to the web belt.
6) Manual
The manual details operation, maintenance and
general information on the AN/PEQ-2A.
7) Batteries (2 AA)
Two AA batteries are used as a power supply for
operating the AN/PEQ-2A. The use of high quality
batteries is recommended.
2-5
8) Strap, Retention
The switch retention strap provides a convenient
means of attaching the cable switch to the weapon.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
4.1 GENERAL
This section contains a description of battery
installation, safety block installation, the button switch,
the cable switch, the mode switch, and boresight
adjusters.
DANGER
4-1
4.2 AN/PEQ-2A CONTROLS AND INDICATORS
WARNING
a. Battery Installation
Unscrew the battery caps and install two AA batteries.
Orient the batteries as indicated by the markings on the
AN/PEQ-2A body.
4-2
b. Safety Block Installation
The safety block installed in the Training Mode (blue
side up) prevents the operator from accessing the non-
eyesafe modes (AIM HI, DUAL LO/HI, DUAL HI/HI). A
.050 hex head allen wrench is needed to unscrew the
block from the body and re-install it in the Tactical
mode (black side up).
NOTE
4-5
d. Button Switch
The integral button switch is used when the AN/PEQ-
2A is hand held. Pressing the Button Switch operates
the AN/PEQ-2A in the operational mode set by the
mode selector (see paragraph b). When the button is
released, the AN/PEQ-2A turns off.
A green LED (Figure 4-3) is incorporated into the body
of the AN/PEQ-2A to indicate that the AN/PEQ-2A is
ON. Whenever AN/PEQ-2A is activated the green LED
will light and will stay lit until the unit is turned OFF.
If continuous operation of the AN/PEQ-2A is desired,
pressing the Button Switch twice in rapid succession
will latch the AN/PEQ-2A ON. The AN/PEQ-2A will
remain ON until the push button is pressed a third time.
Green LED
4-6
e. Cable Switch
The Cable Switch is used when the AN/PEQ-2A is
mounted on a weapon. The cable switch plugs into the
back of the AN/PEQ-2A assembly as shown in Figure
4-4. Pressing the button or pad at the end of the cable
switch causes the AN/PEQ-2A to turn on in the
operational mode selected by the mode selector switch.
When the button is released, the AN/PEQ-2A turns off.
4-7
f. Focus Knob
The focus knob shown in Figure 4-5 is used to vary the
beam spread of the illumination beam based on the
range and size of the area to be illuminated.
Focus Knob
4-8
g. Lens Caps
Lens Cap, Illuminator
The Illuminator Lens Cap, shown in Figure 4-6,
contains a diffuser which enables the AN/PEQ-2A
illuminator laser to emit in a 45 degree cone (10 feet at
10 feet). To use the lens cap, remove it from its stored
location on the side of the AN/PEQ-2A by pulling it out
and over the front of the focus knob so that it’s
stretched snug and firmly in place.

to observe both aiming and illumination beams.
Rotate the illumination beam adjusters
(reference Table 4-3) to align the illumination
beam with the aiming beam.
5-3
• Set the adjusters to their zero preset position
as described in paragraph 5.2.
5-4
• When 2 out of 3 rounds are in the designated
strike zone you are zeroed for 250 meters.
