Wendell Young Couneiiman City of Cincinnati December 15, 2010 MOTION I MOVE that an ordinance be drafted to repeal all city-only jail-able offenses (such as the Marijuana Ordinance), at a savings of $300,000. I FUTHER MOVE that these funds be allocated for Human Services funding. STATEMENT By repealing the Marijuana Ordinance — an ordinance that has not been effective, in my opinion ~ and other ordinances that go above and beyond State Statutes, we can alleviate strains on our overtime, lab, and prosecution budgets. Furthermore, I believe that we should direct the savings toward items that have been shown to effective in preventing crime, as administered through the United Way. This is something I would recommend even if it didn’t have budget connotations, but the additional savings makes it the prudent, not just responsible, thing to do.
