Enumerator Training (Cont.)
• Two day trial interviews were conducted- Negombo and
Kalutara-Galle area
• Questions raised during the training used to develop
guidelines
• Eg: Guidelines on WTP
• Separate session for spatial data collection
• Developing standards for volume of water collected and
distance travelled- Visual assessment
• Split sample design for monetary and non-monetary
attributes
Survey Administration
• 1 Principal Investigator and 3 field coordinators
• 15 enumerators divided in 3 groups- one group for each
field coordinator
• Survey done in 2 phases
- Phase 1- based in Negombo
- Phase 2- Northern Kalutara in Kalutara &
Hikkaduwa in Galle
• Field coordinators- Integral for the survey
- Re-scheduling interviews
- Checked survey for completeness and accuracy
• Mistakes corrected on time, no need for repeated visits
Data Entry and Quality Checks

• Coding sheet and Data Entry template


• Data recorded transferred to data management software
• Range checks, Intra-record and Final consistency check
• In addition, spot checks, 10% data entry were double
entered and 100% of critical modules were double
entered to ensure no discrepancies
• Particular attention to outliers, improbable values, etc.
• Identifying subpopulations
• Cross Tabulations to further assess the quality of the data
