Project Name: Improvement in yield of Decorative Paints Project No:GNP(M)-05-06/4

Business Case: The cost saving target for Chennai plant for the year 05-06 is 1% of the RM cost.
In order to meet this objective from Decorative Paint we need to improve the material yield by 50% . Also
the processing of the decorative batches has to be optimised so that all the batches are consistent in the
yield. By doing this for decorative products we will be able to contribute towards the factory objective. The
potential benefit for Decorative paint through yield works out to approx Rs 17lakhs.By not doing this
project the Operating cost will increase

Project Details
Problem Statement: High Variation in Decorative batches yield from 98% to 99% leading Losses

Goal/Objective:i) Reduce inconsistencey of yield of the same Product , Product to product ,and reduce
yield loss variation by 50% of the current levels

Project KPOV(s): % yield , Rs/kg

Project Scope/Constraints:
All the processes I.e powder, Liquid withdrawl to charging to processing to filling at decorative section.The
Start point is Powder issues and Stop Point is Filling.The constraints are the team working with improper
meauring System(Non avaliblity of Flow meter,Weighing balance for alkyd/solvent charging in ball )mills
Out of scope - RM Quality, Formulation constraints.
