United Arab Emirates 2011 Public Holidays

The UAE culture mainly revolves around the religion of Islam, traditional Arab and Bedouin
culture, thus the United Arab Emirates public holidays 2011 are influenced mostly by Islamic
festivals. However, as an advanced country (Dubai, Abu Dhabi are well-known trade and
financial hubs in Middle East) with strong international trade ties to economies around the world,
UAE also celebrate the International New Year’s Day on 1st January annually; unlike many
other Middle Eastern Islamic country.

In 1998, the UAE introduced a five-day government working week, but left the private sector to
make its own decisions. Since September 2006, weekends are Fridays and Saturdays, for civil
servants. The change is optional for private sector companies. The UAE also allow some
flexibility to the private sector to determine the length of the off-days in the holidays / festivals.

Below is the list of UAE Public Holidays 2011. Take note that Islamic festivals are based on
Islamic calendar, which is determined with various moon phase sighting. Thus, the holiday dates
changes every year. This UAE public holidays 2011 calendar is based on estimates only. We do
