About IWNA 2011
Nanotechnology is emerging as key areas of scientific exploration nowadays.
Research of nanotechnology has lead to new developments in several important areas
such as healthcare, energy, and food and environment, information technology,
security, and new materials etc...

Four years ago, the First International Workshop on Nanotechnology and Application
2007 (IWNA 2007) was held successfully on November 15-17, 2007 in Vung Tau
City, Vietnam. The IWNA 2007 attracted more than 230 researchers from both
academia and industry coming from 15 countries. A total of 195 papers were
presented, covered a broad scope of all important issues in nanotechnology, ranging
from fundamental research to nanomaterials and processing, and to nanofabrication
and applications of nanodevices ect.

Continuing this success, the Second International Workshop on Nanotechnology and

Application 2009 (IWNA 2009) was held on November 9-11, 2009 in Vung Tau City.
The conference has attracted 250 participants (in which there are 45 foreigners from
19 countries) coming from many Universities, Institutes, Laboratories, and
Companies in the world. The Workshop has been highlighted by three plenary
sessions and 18 special sessions. A total of 210 papers were presented, covering the
important issues in nanotechnology, ranging from fundamental research in
nanotechnology, nanomaterials and processing to nanofabrication and applications of
nanodevices. Selected papers have refereed for publication in the Journal of
Experimental Nanoscience (JEN) of the Taylor & Francis Publisher (England).

After the success of two international conferences (IWNA 2007 & IWNA 2009), in
this year the conference IWNA 2011 will be held on November 10-12, 2011 in Vung
Tau and from now on this biennial conference will be held on second week of
November in Vung Tau - a beautiful resort city. The IWNA 2011 is jointly organized
by Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) / Laboratory for
Nanotechnology (LNT) and MINATEC (France). It receives the support of the
Ministry of Science and Technology (Vietnam) and the Department of Science and
Technology - Ho Chi Minh City.

In conjunction with IWNA 2011, the Annual School on Micro-NanoTechnology

(MINATEC 2011) will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 7-9, 2011. This
School is co-organized by MINATEC (France) and LNT (Vietnam), and offers
various lectures on micro-nanotechnology and discussion about recently new issues in
nanotechnology.
The IWNA 2011 will hopefully open an opportunity for international & national
scientists to exchange knowledge on various aspects of nanotechnology. Moreover,
the broad network for international cooperation in researching and educating on
nanotechnology may be established as the productive results of the workshop.
Workshop Topics
1. Fundamentals of Nanotechnology
Papers cover the theoretical studies of the physics behind the nano
world, simulations ranging from molecular dynamic of several
particles to even larger scale calculations. Papers presenting the
theory of nanochemistry, nano fluidics, and nanobiotechnology etc
are also included.
2. Nanofabrication Techniques
Papers presenting conventional and innovation techniques for
nanofabrication of materials and devices are in invited. Focused
techniques are, but not limited to, Nanolithography, Nanoimprinting,
Edge lithography, Focused Ion Beam Etching (IBE), Self Assembly,
Nanothinfilm, and packaging etc...
3. Nanomaterials, Nanodevices and Nanomedicine
Papers of this section are devoted for all kind of nanomaterial and
nanodevices, including carbon nanotube, nanowires, nanomagnetics,
nanochannels, nanomechanics, nanocantilevers, nanomembranes, and
nanoelectronics etc. Special attention is given for nanodevices for
biomedical and healthcare applications. A nanomedicine section will
be arranged to present state- of- the art research on nanosensors for
highly sensitive and selective detection of biological species
(biomarkers) for early disease diagnosing and new materials and
devices for drug delivery to effectively enhance a treatment of
medicines.
4. Applications of nanotechnology
Papers presenting the applications of nanodevices are arranged in this
sector. Special attention is given for application of nanodevices for
Healthcare, RFID, Inkjet printing process, Thin film or even emerging
solar cell technologies etc...
Publication
Papers presented at the workshop will be printed in a Proceeding and
a CD. The proceedings and CD will be provided to the attendants at
the workshop. Selected papers will be refereed for publication in the
Advances in Natural Science: Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
(ANS), and in the Journal of Experimental Nanoscience (JEN) of the
Publisher Taylor & Francis (England).
About Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City
Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) was established
in January 1995 as a national multi-disciplinary university, formed by the
merger of existing universities in Ho Chi Minh City. Chartered by the
Government, its mission has been to become Vietnam’s premier institution of
higher education, so as to better serve the country and its community.

About Laboratory for Nanotechnology

The Laboratory for Nanotechnology (LNT) was established in September 2004
and is one of the key research centres of Vietnam National University - Ho
Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM). It was financed by the Higher Education Project
of World Bank with the budget of 4 millions USD, then further equipped with
3 millions USD package by Vietnamese Government. Currently, LNT has 50
researchers among which 40 researchers are permanent staffs.
‰ LNT is the common technological facility center for micro-
nanotechnology research in the South of Vietnam.
‰ Main research orientations of LNT are: modeling & simulation, materials
property-structure analysis, thin film materials, materials for
biotechnology, nanomaterials, carbon nanotubes, LED, solar cell, laser
technology, MEMS, bio-nanosensors, RFID cards, Inkjet process etc.
‰ The Laboratory for Nanotechnology has established a good cooperation
with 30 universities and research institutes in the world.
Venue
The location of the Third International Workshop on Nanotechnology and
Application IWNA 2011 will be held in Vung Tau City, Vietnam. Vung Tau
is located 125 km from Ho Chi Minh city, and is one of the most beautiful
resort town in the south of Vietnam. Vung Tau City belongs Ba Ria - Vung
Tau province, and is the biggest petroleum center in Vietnam. However,
Vung Tau is even more interesting for its extensive beaches. For example,
tourists always prefer sightseeing at Front Beach (Bai Truoc) then go for
swimming in Back Beach (Bai Sau). Back Beach is well-known for its over
10 km of fine sand seaside. Vung Tau also offers to the tourists one of the
most well known golf courses in Vietnam. From Ho Chi Minh City, it takes
about two hours to reach Vung Tau by road (51A Expressway) or about one
hour by hydrofoil express ferry.
All the participants are invited to joint the following events:
