ACHIEVEMENTS Indore Project
OSE is pleased to share that the construction work of
Indore-Khalghat BOT highway project is completed. The
major challenge in construction of the highway was
improvement of alignment in two Ghat sections, viz,
Bherughat & Bhakaner ghat. At Bherughat, road was
constructed along new alignment, by doing box cutting in
mountains, of depth up to 48 mtrs. & constructing 380
mtrs. long bridge across Ajnar River. At Bhakaner ghat, six
steep curves & steep gradient of 1 in 10 were
smoothened by improving the alignment & easing out the

km/hour. At Bhakaner ghat, new highway passes through

ARTICLES Some Negotiation Tactics
The “building block” technique : Quite simply,
it involves getting an offer by the supplier on the table
and then progressively asking for a better offer step by
step (e.g. for additional quantities, a longer duration
of the contract, an increased range of supplies, a lower
price, etc.)
A buyer should be prepared to say, for
example: “You have given me a good price for a one-
year contract, but what if we extend it to two years?”
Silence: Silence can put a lot of pressure on the
other side. When you have asked a question, you will
want to just wait for an answer.
Repeat, repeat, repeat: This tactic involves
trying to condition the other side. If you keep
repeating the same thing over and over again,
eventually the other side may start to believe or accept
it.
Recess: If the negotiation reaches a stalemate,
or if the other side offers something that you were not
expecting, you will want to call a recess. This will
involve having a short meeting with your team to
decide how to move the negotiation forward.
Divide and rule: This will involve trying to split
the views of the seller's team by addressing questions
to particular persons.
Empathy: This is a tactic you may wish to
employ to obtain understanding from the other side
e.g. “If you were me, what would you do?” It can be
used with emotional persuasion.
Re-escalation of demand: This tactic can be
used with “threat”, and involves saying, for example,
“If you can't move any further on this, then I'm afraid
we must go back to our original position”.
One more thing: This tactic can be used to get
the supplier to make a further move when the deal is
about to be concluded. It can involve making
comments such as: “Well, I think we are almost there.
There is just one more thing we need to discuss”.
