II. The history of human rights in the Philippines and the issues.
 How did it start? What problems have been encountered?
- Focus will be election, freedom of expression and information
- Connecting with martial law, since here in this period, media are deprived telling the
people what the government is doing.
- Post –martial law – The election is also not that valid, since the human rights guarantee
that the people will elect someone that they want to represent them

democracy is a type of government which makes the people the source of power.
Human rights are the right of the individuals.
In a democratic country, election of official is the means to choose who will represent the people
Also, the media and the citizens in general have the freedom to speak out about their government
official and the government. Another thing, they have the right to free information through the media or
through requesting for a document of the government.

Issue: in our election with the snap election during martial law and in 2004, there was a dayaan between
the candidates. The people’s choice are not the one who won. If there is democracy here, why did the
citizens get the official who was not the one they chose to
