FIGURE 14 SERVICE DATA FLOW

Downlink: The service data from BSC/RNC enters BBU via CC

or SA. IP protocol termination and NAT conversion at Abis/Iub
are done on CC board. The data is then converted into internal
IP datagram and transmitted to baseband board (uBPG/BPC)
through Gigabit Ethernet (GE). The baseband board performs
modulation, multiplexing, and rate adaptation for the internal
IP datagram and transmits it to the IQ switching unit of FS.
Then, on the IQ switching unit of FS, de-multiplexing, inter-
leaving, frame forming, and parallel- serial conversion are im-
plemented. Finally, the internal IP datagram is distributed to
RU via BBU-RU interface (optical port).

Note:
If Abis/Iub uses the E1/TI interface, you shall transfer and pro-
tect the signal via SA board. If Abis/Iub uses GE interface, di-
rectly connect it to CC.

Uplink: The IQ switching unit of FS receives baseband signals

from RU, performs de-multiplexing, and then transmits them to
baseband board through high-speed serial signals. The base-
band board then performs demodulation to get the original se-
rial signals. These signals are packed into Ethernet frames,
passed to the switching center via GE, and processed as trans-
mission protocols at Abis/Iub on the CC board. Finally, they
are transmitted to BSC/RNC via E1/T1/GE.

System Control Signal Flow

The CC board implements the master control function. The control
signal is distributed to all other boards from the CC board. Figure
15 shows the control signal flow.

board and is distributed to RU via the optical port. Figure 16 shows
the clock distribution.

FIGURE 16 CLOCK DISTRIBUTION

In Figure 16, the clock reference of CC board comes from GPS net-
work. The clock reference of CC board can be: GPS output clock
reference, upper-level clock synchronized with Abis/Iub E1/T1, or
BITS reference clock input from CC front panel. You can select dif-
ferent clock reference sources based on the specific applications.

Networking Description
Star Networking
Application Star networking is suitable for common application scenarios.
Scenario Generally, it is used in urban areas with dense population.
Networking Mode In star networking, each site has n transmission links that directly
connect BSC/RNC with BTS. The BTS equipment on each site is
terminal equipment. Figure 18 shows the star networking mode.

FIGURE 18 STAR NETWORKING

Benefit and The networking mode is simple, easy maintenance and engineer-
Weakness ing, less loops passed by the signal, and the more reliable. How-

ZXSDR BS8900 GU360 System Description

ever, the star networking requires more transmission cables than

other modes.

Chain Networking
Application The chain networking is usually applied in strip-shaped areas with
Scenario sparse population, such as areas along the highway and railway.
Networking Mode To avoid clock performance degradation, it is recommended not to
cascade more than 4 BTSs in the chain networking mode. Figure
19 shows the chain networking of BS8900.

FIGURE 19 CHAIN NETWORKING

Benefit and With chain networking, a number of transmission devices can be

Weakness saved. However, because signal passes through many intermedi-
ate links, the link reliability is comparatively low.

Ring Networking
Application Ring networking can be applied in common application scenarios.
Scenario In normal case, because the ring networking has good self-healing
capability, it is usually recommended to use the ring networking
mode if route permits.
Networking Mode In case of some parts of the ring being broken, the ring changes to
two rings. Figure 20 shows the ring networking mode of BS8900.

FIGURE 20 RING NETWORKING

Benefit and Ring networking is more reliable than chain networking. The for-
Weakness mer has a stronger self-healing capability. If a link in the ring is
broken, the ring network can restore to chain network automati-
cally. Also, the service is not affected.
