Introduction
The Harris Falcon III series of radio products builds upon the capability of the combat-proven Falcon II radio family . Designed for the Joint Tactical Radio Systems (JTRS) Version 2 .2 Software Communications Architecture (SCA), Falcon III radios provide a new level of waveform flexibility . Able to port in any SCAstandard waveform from the JTRS library, Falcon III radios are ideal for situations requiring the SCA 2 .2 certified architecture . Several frequencyhopping ECCM waveforms are provided for the Falcon III transceivers . Falcon III radio products contain many times the processing power of other multiband radios, yet maintain interoperability with the Falcon II family of radios . Though the radio architecture has changed, the AN/PRC-152(C) features the man-machine interface of the AN/PRC-117F(C) multiband manpack transceiver, its manpack radio counterpart . To complement the AN/PRC-152(C)s portability, high-power vehicular amplifiers are available with jerkand-run capabilities for quickdismount operations . The AN/PRC-152(C) multiband handheld radio is a powerful, lightweight, Type-1 secure voice and data radio that combines several radios into one:
n Low-band VHF capabilities for SINCGARS combat net radio n High-band VHF capabilities for public safety and ground-
Aggressive power management techniques within the AN/PRC-152(C) provide many hours of operation when powered from a single batteryup to 8 hours on one charge . This high-capacity, rechargeable lithium ion battery features a quick-twist mount for easy connect and disconnect . With a JTRS-approved architecture and SCA-certified operating environment, the AN/PRC-152(C) provides the optimal transition to JTRS technology . The AN/PRC-152(C) is the multiband, multimission tactical radio enabling todays warfighter to take on tomorrows missions .
to-air applications
n UHF capabilities for military ground-to-air communications n UHF tactical satellite communications
Certified by the National Security Agency (NSA) for secure communications up to the TOP SECRET level, the AN/PRC-152(C) includes the Sierra II encryption module . Scaled for power-conscious handheld use, Sierra II was selected as the cryptographic architecture standard under the JTRS Ground Mobile Radio (GMR) program .

Glossary
ANDVT Advanced Narrowband Digital Voice Terminal . A COMSEC mode used in 5 kHz Narrowband SATCOM and DAMA . Compatible with the KY-99, KY-99A, and KY-100 COMSEC encryption devices . APCO The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International (APCO) is the worlds largest organization dedicated to public safety telecommunications . APCO-25 Project 25 (P25) or APCO-25 refer to a suite of standards for digital radio communications for use by federal, state/province and local public safety agencies in North America to enable them to communicate with other agencies and mutual aid response teams in emergencies . In this regard, P25 fills the same role as the European Tetra protocol, although not interoperable with it . ARQ Automatic Repeat-reQuest, an error control method for data transmission which makes use of acknowledgments and timeouts to achieve reliable data transmission . An acknowledgment is a message sent by the receiver to the transmitter to indicate that it has correctly received a data frame . Usually, when the transmitter does not receive the acknowledgment before the timeout occurs (i .e . within a reasonable amount of time after sending the data frame), it retransmits the frame until it is either correctly received or the error persists beyond a predetermined number of retransmissions . COMSEC Communications Security . CTCSS or CDCSS Continuous Tone or Continuous Digital Coded Squelch System . Sub-audible tones used to prevent or deny access into LMR repeaters and handheld radios (i .e ., FRS radios) . DS-101, DS-102 Protocols used for loading encryption keys into radio equipment from Data Transfer Devices (DTDs). ECCM Electronic Counter/Counter Measures . Refers to frequency hopping capabilities (i .e ., SINCGARS and Havequick I/II) . ECCM describes a variety of practices which attempt to reduce or eliminate the effect of Electronic countermeasures (ECM) on electronic sensors aboard vehicles, ships and aircraft and weapons such as missiles . ECCM is also known as Electronic Protective Measures (EPM), chiefly in Europe . In practice, EPM often means resistance to jamming .
ESIP Enhanced SINCGARS Improvement Program . Added additional data capabilities to the existing SINCGARS mode . Features available for 3087 .975 MHz LOS and SINCGARS frequency hopping . FASCINATOR Type-1 COMSEC mode used by some Motorola SABER II handheld radios . Fill files Now referred to as MISSION Plan files . Created by the Falcon III Radio Programming Application that contains radio net parameters and radio configuration settings . The file is uploaded into the radio via USB connection then installed as an active mission plan file . GPS Global Positioning System . Satellite system that is used to obtain positioning and time information . Typically used with the radio to load TOD for frequency hopping or HPW . GTOD Global Time-of-Day . Time of day synchronization clock used by SINCGARS radio systems . ICOM SINCGARS fill mode from the DTD . HALF DUPLEX Refers to presets that use different frequencies for transmit and receive (i .e ., SATCOM) . HAVEQUICK A frequency hopping mode used by the US Air Force in the UHF range . HPW High-Performance Waveform . Satellite waveform that can be used on both wideband and narrowband UHF satellites . HPW offers high speed, reliable, error-free delivery of data . HUB Hold Up Battery . It is recommended to replace the HUB annually . HUB voltage level can be tested by conducting a BIT . The HUB battery life can be extended by keeping the radio main battery on at all times or radio connected to external power .

JTRS Joint Tactical Radio System, often pronounced jitters, is planned as the next-generation radio for use by the U .S . military in field operations for the second decade of the 21st century . JTRS is a software-defined radio for voice and data that will be backward-compatible with a very large number of other military and civilian radio systems . It also includes Wideband Networking Software to implement full-featured mobile ad hoc networks . JTRS includes integrated encryption capabilities . The JTRS operational-requirements document was released in 1998 . kbits, kbits/sec Kilobits per second . KDU Keypad/Display Unit . Removable radio interface control unit . KG-84 COMSEC mode used for data traffic (i .e ., HPW, TCM) . KYV-5 COMSEC mode used for SINCGARS ESIP EDM data traffic . Li Ion Lithium Ion . A type of rechargeable battery . LMR Land Mobile Radio System (LMRS) is a term that denotes a wireless communications system(s) intended for use by terrestrial users in vehicles (mobiles) or on foot (portables) . Such systems are used by emergency first responder organizations, public works organizations, or companies with large vehicle fleets or numerous field staff . Such a system can be independent, but often can be connected to other fixed systems such as the public switched telephone network (PSTN) or cellular networks . Also called Public Land Mobile Radio or Private Land Mobile Radio . The Land Mobile Radio System is also the United States Department of Defenses (DoDs) new stateof-the-art communication system . Government contractors, such as Lockheed Martin, SGIS and SAIC, provide the latest in LMRS technology to the government and military . LNE - Late Net Entry . A method of entering a SINCGARS frequency hopping radio net by having the radio automatically adjust its internal clock by receiving a timing signal from the master station .
LOS Line-of-Sight . LOS refers to fixed frequency (simplex) presets . MELP Mixed-Excitation Linear Predictive coding . Voice encoding technique used for narrowband SATCOM and HF communications . MHz Megahertz, Typical frequency designation . Mickey Havequick Time-of-Day word used for referring to TOD over the air . MIL-STD Military Standard . MIL-STD-188-181B The Military Standard that describes non-DAMA SATCOM, including the CPM data capabilities . Referred to as MS181 in the radio (as opposed to HPW) .
