Perimeter

Perimeter

The sum of the lengths of all sides of a closed figure .

Calculating Perimeter

 Perimeter

of a square

4 x side
 Perimeter

of a rectangle =

2 x (l+b)

Square

Area

The number of square units inside a closed figure

Abbreviations: A = Area b = breadth l = length

Rectangle

To find the area multiply the length of the base times the breadth

Rectangle

A=lxb

Square

To find the area multiply the length of one side x 4

Square

A = 4 x side

Parallelogram

Draw a rectangle on graph paper. Cut off a triangle on one side and add it to the other.
1 2 3

Parallelogram

The rectangle becomes a parallelogram so the formula is the same as for a rectangle .

Triangle

The area of a triangle is one half of the length of the base times the height

Triangle
Area of the square is 4 times 4 or 16 sq. in. Area of the triangle is one-half 16, or 8 sq.in. A = 1/2 bh A = 1/2 (4)(4) A = 8 sq. in.
