SEPTEMBER 2011 Dear Parents and Friends, Welcome to an exciting new year at Arbor View Montessori School!

A special welcome to all the new students and their families that are joining us! We are so pleased to have you with us. During the month of September, the staff will be informally assessing new students and kindergartners in order to determine how we can encourage and assist each one in his/her individual learning process. Soon, you will see Physical Geography replacing Fin arts and Music Appreciation as we move into our fall cultural curriculum. Please feel free to call me or drop me a note with any questions or concerns that you might have! My door is always open! CURRICULUM--Reading Readiness and Phonics: Currently the younger children are being exposed to a variety of reading readiness activities such as classification activities, opposites, and metal insets. During circle time, we are emphasizing a new phonetic sound each week and are playing games based around each letter. The pre-kindergarten and kindergarten age children are in the process of reviewing, and being tested in the area of a phonics in order to discover which sounds each child has mastered, and has learned to blend, and read. This will enable the staff to more accurately plan each childs individual progress in reading and phonics. SEPTEMBER SONG OF THE MONTH--The more we get together, together, together. The more we get together the happier well be. For your friends are my friends And my friends are your friends. The more we get together the happier well be. We are so glade that you have chosen our school for your children. So, heres to a great and successful school year! Sincerely,

Lydia Saadeh, M. Ed. Administrator
