The oxford dictionary define ethos as the characteristics and belief

of the community people and the way react to the various problems and situations in life. It refers to the habitual character of a group or a community. Ethos means reputation. Ethos in a Greek word means personality and self character. Ethos has more to do with public image than with private image. In other words, a person ethos is created through language and actions. What a person says and does and other interprets that language and actions creates a persons ethos.

Features of Indian ethos


Every one knows that there is a close relationship between spiritual life and

worldly life of a human being. Individual is the focal point in Indian ethos and basics of indian ethos. Indian ethos emphasis on duties and responsibilities. The basic Principles Tat Tavam Asi: you are supreme-everybody can make himself a genius. Aham Brahmasi: I have potential. I can make impossible possible. Why work? For my personal growth. For the welfare of the world. What is work? Hierarchical organization
A hierarchical organization is an organization structured in a way

such that every entity in the organization. Most corporations, governments, and organized religions are hierarchical organizations. Hierarchy starts with a single and supreme ruler, who passes authority down the organizational pyramid. Hierarchy has its organizational value.

All governments and most companies have similar structures. In

many countries monarchism provided a formal structure that established hierarchical links at every level of society, with the monarch at the top. In business owner traditionally occupied the top of the organization. Hierarchy in Indian culture


India is a hierarchical society. Within Indian culture, whether in the north
and south, Hindu or Muslim, urban or village, people or group of people are ranked according to various essential qualities. Although India is a political democracy. Castes and groups with which almost all Indians are associated are ranked. castes are primarily associated with Hinduism but also exist among other religious groups. Throughout India, individuals are also ranked according to their wealth and power. In a joint family system, karta is the head of the family. Everyone in the family knows, right from the childhood, that they have to obey the orders of karta. They accept the authority of karta even for their personal decision whether minor or major. Subordinates accept his authority and gives him respect.
