Module: Design for Society

Module Code: VC202-880-05 (20 credits)

Lecturer: Katherine Szeto + Marta Kusztra Date: 06/02/2007 or 09/02/2007

Assignment 2: Man. Woman. China.

Brief: Prepare the work that comments on the relationships between men
and women in modern Chinese society. Do you think that these
relationships represent:
– equality?
– inequality?
– partnership?
– dependence?
– competition?

You may focus on the everyday life situations or important social issues,
but you may also choose to concentrate on the private sphere of life. It
is up to you how you define the context for your work, but you should
present your personal perspective on the theme.

Defining your personal opinion is a good place to start working on the

design concept for your project. Your opinion and your concept should
be supported by the research and analysis.

In your research, you should investigate the issues outlined by this

assignment as well as the contemporary media and techniques that you
may want to use in your design. Your research cannot be based only on
the internet sources.

Your work may take any form you choose. Present at least 3 design
solutions that correspond with your concept. You are expected to
experiment visually!
