AREA
Area is the measure of the surface covered by
any object.

OR

It may be defined as the measure of surface

enclosed within the boundary of surface.

It is measured in cm2 or m2 .
AREA OF VARIOUS TWO
DIMENSIONAL FIGURES

• TRIANGLE

• QUADRILATERAL

• CIRCLE
TRIANGLE
Triangle is a three sided closed figure, having three vertices
and three angles.

Area of a Triangle = base x height
2
= 1 bxh

AREA OF QUADRILATERAL
Quadrilateral is a four sided closed figure, having
four vertices and four angles.

Various Types of Quadrilaterals are :-

•Square
•Rectangle
•Parallelogram
•Rhombus
•Trapezium
SQUARE
A square is a quadrilateral with all sides equal and
each angle = 90o

Area of Square = side x side

= a2

The shaded portion represent the area of the

square.

a
RECTANGLE
A Rectangle is a quadrilateral with pair of opposite
sides equal and each angle = 90o

Area of Rectangle = length x breadth

= lxb

The shaded portion represent the area of the

rectangle.

PARALLELOGRAM
Parallelogram is defined as the quadrilateral
with both pair of opposite sides parallel

Area of Parallelogram (IIgm) = base x height

= bxh

The shaded portion represent the area of the

Parallelogram.

b
RHOMBUS
Rhombus is a parallelogram with all sides equal.

Area of Rhombus = side x height

= axh
The shaded portion represent the area of the Rhombus.

Hence, the formulae of area of Rhombus is same as that of a

Parallelogram

a
TRAPEZIUM
Trapezium is a quadrilateral with one pair of opposite
sides parallel.

Area of trapezium

= 1 x (sum of parallel sides) x (distance between them)

2
= 1 x ( b1 + b2 ) x h

CIRCLE
Circle is the locus of points equidistant from a fixed
point.

Area of a circle = 1 π r2

where : π = 3.14
r = radius of the circle
