1. Theo bn cht nghin cu: Nghin cu c bn (basic research): Nghin cu pht trin ton th cc hiu bit cho tt c mi ngi ni chung hay v 1 ngnh ni ring, kt qu lm tng thm s hiu bit v i tng no thuc l thuyt, kt qu thng c cng b cng khai. Nghin cu ng dng (applied research): gii quyt 1 vn c th marketing ca 1 doanh nghip, phm vi p dng hp. 2. Theo ngun thng tin c thu thp: Nghin cu ni nghip (desk research): Thng tin c thu thp l thng tin th cp (l thng tin c sn thu thp v x l cho 1 mc ch no . Nh nghin cu s dng li cho nghin cu ca mnh. Nghin cu hin trng (field research): Thng tin c thu thp l thng tin s cp (l thng tin c thu thp trc tip ti ngun cho mc ch ring ca mnh.
3. Theo cch quan st/ m t d liu: Nghin cu nh tnh (qualitative research): Thng tin c thu thp dng

nh tnh, khng th o lng bng s lng. Qui m ly mu nh, chnh xc khng cao. To c s tin cho nghin cu v nh lng. Nghin cu nh lng (quantitative research): Thng tin cn thu thp dng s lng, s dng khi thng tin chnh xc l cn thit ( khng nh tnh hung). Vic ly mu i din cho ton b th trng, bao qut, qui m ly mu ln, thng ly mu theo xc sut. Phng php s nhiu: Nghin cu nh tnh - nh lng - nh tnh 4. Theo tnh cht kt qu: Nghin cu khm ph: khm ph s b vn cn nghin cu hoc khng nh li vn nghin cu, cc bin, thit lp cc gi thit. Thng s dng nghin cu ni nghip, kinh nghim, quan st. 2. Chn mu phn tng ngu nhin (stratified random)
