Reasons of converting double room to single room

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is looking forward for a change to a better future of education. In order of making it succesful, UTM is taking a big step of changes by re-establishing all college to single room. This idea was presented by Prof. Madya Mohd Tajudin bin Haji Ninggal, the vicechanselor of UTM. By looking the success of Boston University in Massachussets of constructing a national research university by expanding the campus and making it an intellectual village.

Possible pros and cons of implementing new regulation

The effect of converting double room to single room and limiting the number of students that can live inside the campus should not taken lightly. The student council and authority should take a serious step in looking forward of getting much benefits and minimize the negative effects that may rise. The benefits of living with roomate, they would practice communication skills in the same time develop relationship skills. This is because they have to share bathroom, borrowing something, discuss about study and until sometime they would share their private secrets. (San Jose University Housing Service) Living off-campus could make student be more independent as they would not have to follow as many rules living on-campus such as curfew, smoking, sosial and others. Futhermore, students would have better privacy and extra space by living with a few friends in a house, therefore, they don`t have to queue up when going to bathroom, sharing things and much more. They also have a sense of responbility when they have to pay bills, cleaning their own house, grocery shopping and cooking. Meanwhile, looking at the other side, living off-campus would be much more expensive as students have to pay monthly bill, internet access, buying furniture, kitchen essentials, etc. They have to use their own transportation to go to campus everyday. This will also result in extra cost of living. Some of the student will feel isolated because they would not be participating in campus activities. (ecampusTours.com)
