Chapter I: Introduction

I.1 Overview

In Singapore, there are over three-quarter of Singapore companies conducted

formal appraisals for managers, supervisors and rank and file employees (SIPM and

NPB, 1991). Causes as the country policy which move away from seniority-based

wage scales to performance related to reward or the business is greater competition,

thus the need for performance appraisal is focused on necessity of meeting job

requirements with higher standards.

I.2 The Scope of this Project

The scope of this project is to study, analyze and suggest a suitable

framework for the performance appraisal system. I shall use Concorde Auto

Accessories Pte Ltd as an example of typical small to medium size company in

Singapore.

The fast expansion of the company and the high employee turnover has

convinced the management that a good performance appraisal system is necessary.

I.3 Objectives of the Project

In this project, I will evaluate the performance appraisal system in Concorde

Auto Accessories Pte.Ltd and find viable recommendations to further enhance the

effectiveness or solving the problem of their performance appraisal.

Furthermore, with understanding the most of effectiveness and problems of

performance appraisal in this organization, I will have an experience lesson to create

the successful performance appraisal system.

I.4 Structure of Project

The structure of this project is consists of six chapters:

Chapter 1: is introduction, which includes overview, scope, objectives of

project. In addition, it also includes structures of project.

Chapter 2: is literature review about the basis concept of performance

appraisal system, which includes the methods of performance appraisal, the

performance appraisal’s objectives and errors, etc.

Chapter 3: introduces the organization; it focuses on the history of

organization, mission and vision of organization, product and service.

Chapter 4: is the research methodology that includes secondary data,

primary data, data collection, sample size, pilot testing and conclusion.

Chapter 5: is findings and analysis, which include introduction, findings,

analysis.

Chapter 6: is conclusion and recommendation, which include overall of the

project. Moreover, it also includes recommendation, and end with conclusion.
