Archt. Deepthie Perera Architectural Essays

Architecture is the thoughtful making of place this one striking statement by a renowned Architect Louis Khan made me curious about architecture, what is inside of it? what opportunities and careers it can provide? And is it exciting? Will it give me a full attention and will I love this profession? Some people think that architecture is an ordinary program being offered by prominent institutions here in the Philippines, and I was one of that thinkers .as I passed the entrance examination and had chosen my desired program, it opened me a door, a door to the world of critical thinking, a world of creating place for humankind, a world of art and science, and a world making a sensible place . No one ever thought before that I would lead my way through this profession. Way back in 2007 after graduation, I decided to took up an forestry course in UPLB. I was still undecided that time what program to take and what really fits my interest. When I was in a cartography class, we were assigned to draw maps and elevation of trees. When my professor saw my work, he insisted me that I should go to an architectural program rather than a forestry course. This give me an idea what profession should I really take. I think that time forestry was really not for me. It didn t fit my interest, my aspirations and passion. And one time when I was bored, I was able to sketch some buildings in the university. These things made up my mind to try architecture. When the semester ended, I d decided to find decent architectural schools since there is no architectural course offered in my previous school. Since time is important, and I want to finish my desired program in an earliest possible time, one school catches my attention, and that is Mapua Institute of Technology. They offer the program in just four years and they also produced great number of top-notches in architectural profession. I never regret my stay here in Mapua. My passion for architecture has aligned with the teachings of the institute. It also provided me ideas, principles and theories that made my stay in this course more fulfilling and interesting. Even if architecture is really a tough course because it is very diverse and well-rounded profession, I was able to love this course because it feeds my interest, my creativity, and it aligned with my dreams for my future, making sensible place for everyone.
