Lab2 : Multi-storey Building LAN

Advanced Scenario 1 (100Mbps) with Daisy Chain NT Server in Basement. To find the result using 100Mbps for Daisy chain network server in basement. We need to change all the cabling of network 10Mbps to 100Mbps. This could give us a fast data transfer when network will be at its peak time of business hours. 100Mbps. This shows considerable results. The table1 illustrate in more detail Table1 Oracle Application Response time Floor 10 Floor 5 Floor 1

Time Average of Data Travel on Cable 3.25 3.10 2.98

Advanced Scenario1 (100Mbps) with Daisy Chain NT Server on 5th Floor In this scenario bank place the core switch on 5th Floor, to find the results we run the simulation. Before running the simulation we again change cable 10Mbps to 100Mbps subnet 7 file Print & email server to floor 10 as shown in fig1.
Fig1. First stage of cabling upgrade

The cable upgrade will be started from the subnet 7 file Print & email server to floor 10 as shown in Fig1. Once all cable is upgraded from subnet to floor 10 we run the simulation to find the result.

Fig3 Shows result of Floor10,5,1 on 5th floor.

The table2 shows the response time, The result shows a significant response time moving core switch to 5th floor. However floor 5 and floor 10 show an increase response. As shown in fig 3. Starting from subnet 7 file Print & email server to floor 10 as shown in Fig1. Cable upgrade result is shown in Fig4 as all the bank

2 network are connected with one core network. Date speed travel will be faster as there s one central core switch.

Module: CO4506 Wired and Wireless Result show there not much difference compare to 100Mbps cable in table4. Table4 Oracle Application response time Floor 10 Floor 5 Floor 1

Advance Scenario 1GBbps with Daisy Chain NT Server on 5th Floor. The result shows in Fig6

to analysis more clearly we see oracle application data rate travel on cable in table3. Table3 Oracle Application Time Average of Data response time Travel on Cable Floor 10 2.94 Floor 5 2.95 Floor 1 2.94 The table3 show good results compare to core switch in basement and on 5th floor. The application response time increase using the core switch as a central switch. Advance Scenario 1GBbps with Daisy Chain NT in Basement Before upgrading the cable to 1GBbps we refer to step 1 in fig1 to changing the cable is 1000BaseX we use. The result shown in Fig5.

To get better understanding we use table5 to analysis it. Table5 Oracle Application Time Average of Data response time Travel on Cable Floor 10 3.08 Floor 5 2.95 Floor 1 3.07 Again compare to 10Mbps cable at 5th floor switch, 1GBbps doesn t make a good difference. Advanced Scenario1 (1GBbps) with Collapsed backbone NT Significant result is shown using 1GBbps cable when making a core switch as a central switch as shown in Fig7.

Module: CO4506 Wired and Wireless After having the increase growth time of 3year, and as a Network consultant I chose to implement a 100Mbps cable to implement on network from subnet 7 File printer and Email Server to Floor 10. Running simulation of 100Mbps and 1GBbps shows not much significant impact on data travel on cable 100Mbps and 1GBbps. Additional I recommend Daisy Chain Network core server on 5th floor. On the other side we have a option to move the core switch to basement or to chose to Collapsed backbone network. As mention earlier if collapsed backbone network get down the outrage will be all network goes down. That the strong reasons to choose a Daisy Chain core switch on 5th floor. The Fig 8 illustrates the oracle application travel data on the cable.

Fig7 Core switch acting as central switch at 1GBbps

the table show the average time of oracle application with 1GBbp cable is implemented on Network table6 show it statistics. Table6 Oracle Application Time Average of Data response time Travel on Cable Floor 10 2.90 Floor 5 2.90 Floor 1 2.90 Good result is shown when implementing a 1GBbps. Conclusion All the simulation result show a significant difference, however 1GBbps cost is much higher than 100Mbps, additional the result are almost same. The recommendation to bank is to implement 100Mbps and use a core switch on 5th floor instead of using Collapsed backbone network, if collapsed backbone core switch went down whole network goes down. Challenge1: The growth of user numbers in next 3years 20% growth compare to previous, the table7 show the total user growth in 3years. Table7 Users at Present 95 Users at Floor 10 50 Users Floor 5 70 Users Floor 1

Fig8, Shows the growth of user on network in 3years time with cable 100MBps.

1year 20% 114 users at floor 10 60 users at floor 5 84 users at floor 1

2year 20% 137 users at floor 10 72 users at floor 5 101 users at floor 1

3year 20% 164 users at floor 10 87 users at floor 5 121 users at floor 1

Conclusion The lab teaches us the implementation of a cable with a high speed data rate. As oracle which is database software will be access on the peak time of the business hour meanwhile email, printer, file sharing etc. The core network switch is place different places and implements different topology etc, Daisy chain and collapsed network. The lab gives us a strong basis of real time network. Meanwhile we learn the different cable data transfer on LAN. We implemented different cable. This is good practice simulation in the light of real network.
