Course Objectives and Description To introduce architecture students to the history of Egyptian architecture, its motifs, and its

influences on post Pharaonic architecture and design throughout the world. A basic class on Egyptian architecture, comprised of a brief introduction to the culture of the ancient Egyptians, followed by a series of lectures dealing with Egyptian architecture, the typology of Egyptian architecture, and the role it played in Egyptian society and culture. The course will include: The raw materials and tools used by the Egyptians Sections on temples, tombs, and, with a brief discussion of urban planning Some of the motifs used in the buildings The Egyptians ideas about architecture, including their use of light, water, and space in the buildings. Egypts legacy to architecture, and how the use of the grammar of architecture changes over time. Aim: To Design a 3D Model for a Marriage Hall (inspired by the Ancient Egyptian Architecture)
Course Outcomes After completing this course students should be able to: 1. Recognise the basic types of Egyptian architecture, sacred and secular. 2. Know the building materials available to the ancient and modern Egyptians 3. Understand the grammar of ancient Egyptian architecture how it can be altered for the present day. 4. Understand basics of ancient Egyptian iconography 5. Make links between the past and the present, architecturally 6. Be able to carry out independent research.

7. To make presentations, with illustrations (2- and 3D), using powerpoint. 8. To work successfully as a student team.
