Primary- emitted into the atmosphere directly from the source of pollutant Secondary- undergo chemical reactions among primary pollutants.

TYPES OF AIR POLLUTION

Indoor air pollution-in houses and commercial buildings. Local air pollution-isolated factories and waste disposal sites eg. Klang. Urban air pollution-localized in urban areas such as smog that reduce visibility eg. Kuala Lumpur.

EXAMPLE OF AIR POLLUTANTS

Sulfur compounds-sulfur
sulfide
dioxide,hydrogen

Nitrogen compounds-nitric oxide, nitrogen

dioxide.

Photochemical smog-yellow brown haze which

reduces visibility

Inorganic carbon compounds-carbon

monoxide, carbon dioxide

Organic carbon compounds-methane, VOCs

(benzene, toluene,formaldehyde)

Ozone(O3)-secondary pollutant, not emitted directly.

Halogen compounds-reactive & highly toxic
chlorine , HCl
