Are Viruses alive?

NO, viruses are not alive although some scientists argue there should be a sixth kingdom. All living things follow and obtain all seven characteristics of life. These are: movement, respiration, reproduction, sensitivity, growth, nutrition and excretion. Viruses are parasites and cant reproduce by themselves. They attach themselves on host cells and make them reproduce, making many other virus particles of the same type. I.e. the other cell does all the work. A virus also cant be classified as living as they have no cells. It has no nucleus or a protein coat protects cytoplasm and its DNA or RNA. Viruses dont do any of the characteristics except reproduction and they do that parasitically. They can move but not by themselves. Another reason people think they are alive is that viruses have the ability to evolve.
