The pre-deployment upgrade indicates an upgrade scenario in which the BTS software is upgraded when the GTMU is not connected to the BSC. Version of data configuration supports SRAN: indicates that the Is Support Normalized Data Configuration parameter is set to SUPPORT(Support). It is recommended that main control boards, TRXs, UTRP boards, and UBRI boards be upgraded on the M2000. Whether monitoring boards and USCU boards need to be upgraded depends on precautions released by Huawei. Software upgrade of the boards needs to be performed on the BSC6900 LMT or SMT. For detailed operations, see the 3900 Series GSM BTS V100R013C00SPC031 Upgrade Guide (BSC6900 LMT-Based) and 3900 Series GSM BTS V100R013C00SPC031 Upgrade Guide (SMT-Based). 1.4 Precautions
1.4.1 Notes
1. Determine whether the M2000 and the BSC6900 need to be upgraded according to the version configuration information released with the 3900 Series GSM BTS V100R013C00SPC031 Release Notes.doc. Services are interrupted during the upgrade. Therefore, the upgrade must be performed at the time specified by the customer. The figures in this document are captured from iManagerM2000 V200R011C00SPC200. This document uses the upgrade from BTS3000V100R009C00 to BTS3000V100R013C00SPCXXX as an example. The service interruption duration and the communication interruption duration mentioned earlier are obtained on the assumption that the network performance is the best. Therefore, the time is for reference only. BTS configurations on the BSC6900 LMT or CME require BTS configuration control rights. Therefore, do not configure a BTS when it is being upgraded by using the BSC6900 LMT or CME. Otherwise, the upgrade may fail. When performing one-click upgrade for the GBTS on the M2000, only the GTMU software and TRX software can be upgraded. If you need to upgrade other board software, see 3900 Series GSM BTS V100R013C00SPC031 Upgrade Guide (SMT-Based). When upgrading a BTS on the iManager M2000 V200R010C00SPC200 or a later version, do not turn on or turn off the automatic loading and activation switch manually, because the M2000 automatically turns on and turns off the switch. Before performing a loading task, the M2000 disables the automatic loading and activation switch. After the activation task is complete, the M2000 enables the automatic loading and activation switch. After the loading task is complete, the Auto Download Active Function Switch is OFF.

7 FAQs

CAUTION

All modes of a multi-mode base station and the base station controllers (if any) must be managed by the same M2000, and the modes have been bound to each other on the M2000. For details about how to determine the mode of a base station, see section 7.6"How Do I Judge Whether a Base Station Runs in Multi-Mode or Single-Mode?" For a multi-mode base station, ensure that the versions of different modes are compatible with each other after the upgrade. If a multi-mode and co-module base station is upgraded mode by mode, the upgrade interval between two modes should not exceed one day.

1.4.2 Upgrade Precautions

Table 1.1 Alarm generated on a dual-mode base station during a mode-by-mode upgrade Precautions Aspect Problem Description Description In versions earlier than BTS3900 V100R004C00SPC130(GBTS:BTS3000V100R013C 00SPC023), Input Voltage Alarm Upper Threshold is set to a small value, 57V, which leads to a false alarm. Therefore, in BTS3900 V100R004C00SPC130(GBTS:BTS3000V100R013C 00SPC023), the value of this parameter is changed to 58V. However, this change causes the alarm ALM-26271 Inter-System Monitoring Device Parameter Settings Conflict to be generated when the following conditions are met: The EMU board is shared between two modes of the dual-mode base station. The version of one mode is upgraded to BTS3900 V100R004C00SPC130 (GBTS:BTS3000V100R013C00SPC023)or a later version during a mode-by-mode upgrade.

Impact

When the EMU board is shared between two modes, the preceding alarm is generated if the values of Input Voltage Alarm Upper Threshold are inconsistent between two modes. After the versions of two modes are both upgraded to BTS3900 V100R004C00SPC130 (GBTS:BTS3000V100R013C00SPC023)or a later version, the preceding alarm is cleared because the values of Input Voltage Alarm Upper Threshold are consistent between the two modes.

Precautions Aspect Workaround

Description 1. Before the upgrade, remove the EMU board from the mode not to be upgraded by running one of the following commands: RMV BTSBRD: used for GSM RMV BRD: used for UMTS or LTE

2. If the EMU board is not removed from the mode not to be upgraded before the upgrade, manually filter out the preceding alarm after the upgrade. Probability 100%

1.5 Mode-by-Mode Upgrade of a Multi-Mode Base Station

This section provides details about upgrading one mode of a multi-mode base station. You can ignore this section if the base station to be upgraded is not a multi-mode base station.

1.5.1 Impacts on the Services of the Peer End

Upgrading the GSM mode upgrade of a GL/UL/GUL multi-mode base station will interrupt the GSM/LTE services for no more than 3 minutes if one of the following conditions is met:

Software of the shared RF modules is upgraded. Co-transmission is implemented through the ports on a board working in GSM mode.

1.5.2 Loading Control Rights

The USCU and the RF modules shared by all modes of a multi-mode base station can be upgraded with the mode that has loading control rights. The M2000 sets loading control rights automatically. For details about which mode has loading control rights, see Appendix 1 Version Mapping Information. You can obtain this appendix from the multi-mode base station release notes in the document package delivered with the software version of the multi-mode base station. If ALM-26277 Inter-System Control Rights Conflict is reported, run the SET BTSLOADCTRL command to set loading control rights. For details, see section 7.7"How Do I Grant or Cancel Loading Control Rights in GSM Mode?."

Version Rollback

If the network malfunctions after the upgrade or the KPIs after the upgrade do not meet the operator's requirements, roll back the version and report the event to Huawei.

For a multi-mode base station, if multiple modes that have been upgraded to the target versions need to be rolled back, it is recommended that all the target versions be rolled back to the source versions. On the M2000 client, click and select the NE, then run the DSP BTSSWRBKCAP command to check whether a fast version rollback can be implemented. If the result shows that there is a software version that can be rolled back, perform the steps described in section 6.1"Performing a Fast Version Rollback." If there is no version that can be rolled back, perform the steps described in section 6.2"One-Click Rollback."

If network reconfiguration is required after the upgrade is complete, contact Huawei for technical support before performing the version rollback.

6.1 Performing a Fast Version Rollback

Loading software is not required by the fast version rollback. Therefore, the duration of fast version rollback is shorter than that of one-click version rollback. The step is as following: Step 1 Log in to M2000 client, and then choose Software > NE Upgrade Task Management > NE Upgrade Task. The NE Upgrade Task tab page is displayed. Step 2 On the displayed NE Upgrade Task tab page, click Create in the upper left corner. On the displayed list, select GBTS.
