Iran timeline in the recent 100 years

1906 - Constitutional Revolution: clerics and merchants protested to limit the power of the Qujar monarchy; resulted in the countrys rst constitution and legislative body: Majlis. 1919 - Majlis rejected the Anglo-Persian Agreement which would grant the United Kingdom signicant control of the state and the economy after Iran had been divided into formal spheres of inuence by the UK and Russia in 1907. 1921 - coup dtat led by General Reza Khan Pahlavi led to the establishment of the rst highly centralized state in Irans history under the Pahlavi Dynasty (1925-1979). Westernization. 1943 - Tehran Conference: summit meeting on British, Russian, and American leaders to guarantee Iranian independence. 1946 - The National Front Party, led by Mohammad Mosaddeq, defeated the oil concessions to Russia. The Majlis forbidded foreign companies from running the oil industry. 1953 - Overthrew of Mosaddeq: Being afraid of that Mohammad Mosaddeq would incline towards Soviet Union for a Communist rule, the US, the UK and along with the shah overthrew Mosaddeq through Operation Ajax. The shah continued to used the pervasive secret police (SAVAK) to maintain his rule. 1963 - White Revolution. top-down modernization: land reform, privatization of staterun industries, a literacy campaign, and the enfranchisement of women. 1979 - Islamic Revolution: Ayatollah Khomeini argued that Islamic government should be constructed around the concept of velayat-e faqih, replacing the sovereignty of men and women with the sovereignty of God as transmitted by the clergy. Violent birth for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Referendum on the constitution. 1980 - The Iran-Iraq War(1980-1988) aggravated the relationship with the US since the hostage crisis.
