URBAN STRATEGY: Organisation and variation of memory devices

The organisation and the variation of the informal memory activating devices are developed in relation with each other. The devices are organised within the three memory zones (top of Aztec pyramid, courtyard of Santiagos Church, and the public square of Plaza de Las Tres Culturas) are configured in three layers of vriation. These three layers varry in scale and in their proposed usage. The first layer is designed in accordance with the importance of place specific memory. These structures are permanently installed on site and are activated as a result of a collective group participation for large scale events related to memory. The second layer is activated by either a small group of individuals or by a single individual. This layer of structures has the possibility to form part enclosures to create a semi-private environment for intimate celebrations of memory. The third layer is the smallest typology in terms of scale and is activated by a single individual. The scale variation and the three different typology configurations accomodates varrying informal memory events.
