MACRO-EXAMINATION

TEST CODE/YEAR ASME IX (2010) Boiler & Pressure Vessel PART/SECTION/TYPE Welding Qualifications ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA Shall be smoothed and etched with a suitabke etchant to give a clear difinition of the weld metal (WM) and heat affected zone (HAZ). In order to pass the test a) Visual examination of the cross section of the WM and HAZ shall show complete and free from cracks, except the linear indication at the root not exceeding 1/32in. (0.8) shall be acceptable. b) The weld shall not have a concavity or convexity greater than 1/16in. (1.5mm) c) There shall be not more than 1/8in. (3mm) different in the length of the legs of the fillet. The weld and parent metal shall be free from a) cracks, lack of fusion, or incomplete penetration unless the procedure is base a joint with incomplete penetration; and b) porosity, slag inclusion or surface cativities, the size and distribution of which exceeds the acceptance limits in AS 4037. As to the macroscopic test, the macrostructure on the cross-section of the weld of the weld of the test piece shall be free from crack, lack of penetration and other defect that are detrimental to use. The test specimen shall be prepared and etched in accordance with an appropriate standard on one side to clearly reveal the Weld Zone. Shall include unaffected BM and recorded at least 1 macro-reproductionper procedure test. Specific service or conditions may require than is specified by this Standard in order to gain more info.
