Prayers to Lilith

Why in hell would any person seek guidance from Lilith? What can she possibly offer a devotee in her cult? Legends tell of stolen souls of babes while they slept, terrorized men overcome with lust, and demonic forces dangling threats of infanticide. Occultists tend to dabble in taboos, and see things from behind the mirror. Some even etch their sigils in the finish to penetrate the onlookers psyche. The history and development of Lilith is useful to the Chaos Magician that seeks to turn reality on its head. Chaos is organized momentarily for his purposes, then scattered to the winds for the taking. Praying is likened to chanting incantations to invoke the Great Spirit. Lilith then, can be anything you need and desire. You build her architecture even that buried deep in your subconscious. The very fears you keep hidden from the world can and will be used against you, if you tread too loudly in Liliths domain. SUMER: Lilit are wind spirits. They were believed to carry many things on the winds: Good/Evil omens, illness, intuition, insight and sacred voice. The role they played in Ancient Mesopotamia, dominated voice. It is the very reason that Lilla is used for song. It is a good indication that the Sumerians regarded the use of voice with both high regard and superstition. The spoken word was believed to be a gift from the gods. If one were to abuse it, it would bring great plight onto the village and its gardens (storms). The use of song was of great importance as it was believed to lift one up to the same level of the gods. This is a key element in communing with the divine. It serves as an intercessor between man and his god(s).

AKKADIA/BABYLON: Lilit were adopted by the Akkadians who called them Lilitu. They, along with the Babylonians birthed the first transformations of the original poems and epics to develop new myths. It was believed that the Lilitu took on the form a female entity; she sat in Inannas tree as her priestess. In the Gilgamesh Epic Gilgamesh chops down Inanas tree, signifying the end of Inanas era, Lilith flees into the desert where she dwells once again the spirit of the winds and returns to her original form (an

indication of cyclic myths). [The Persians adopted this myth for the Djinn.] Later, she takes form as a sacred whore who lures men astray, and into Sin. She becomes the anti-mother in that she is blamed for sudden crib death. The lore of the people told of horrific stories of Liliths Demoness and Prowess. She strangled babes in their beds, drank their blood and cannibalized their flesh. Protection amulets were fashioned to ward off Liliths Wrath. JEWISH Mysticism: In later Judaic myths told by Rabbis who sought to hold the spirit of women down, she was adopted as Adams first wife. In the original story, Lilith was not a victim; nor was she cast out of Eden for refusing to submit to Adam. Instead, she was made of the same fiber of God, thus an equal to Adam; whereas Eve was fashioned out of Adams rib, making Eve an emanation. Any emanation degrades the further away it is to the divine. Lilith chose not to submit to Adam, and she was the only living being who held Gods true name. She called it out, and told her creator that she did not wish this for herself. If she was given free will, and it was as free as her Creator intended then she was not to be forced into forfeiting her true will, nor would she sacrifice herself for any being in all of creation. She was allowed to leave on her own accord, and took solace in a cave. When Adam became lonely and beckoned to Lilith, she was nowhere to be found. Adam called out to God, and he sent his angels to where Lilith dwelled to see if they could convince her to return to Eden, but she refused. And so, God created Eve for Adams comfort. The Rabbis believing this story would empower women to rise up against a patriarchy, vilified Lilith and she became the victim cast out by God for her transgressions. The early Hebrews used the scapegoat for sin. They would lay all their sins upon a beast of burden, and then sent it out into the desert to die of exposure. When the animal died, they believed that they were relieved themselves of the burden of their sins. This scapegoat gave rise to the Persian myths of the Djinn, as the desert was filled with much suffering and superstition. The Owl accompanies Lilith in her myth, attributed to the many omens of local folklore in Akkadia/Bablyon. This gave rise to the fearful Strix in Ancient Rome, and was in use as the symbolic Harpie. In the context of Ancient Sumer, this signified Night, it was later adopted by early writers of Biblical texts as Laylah.

Prayer to Layla written by Bruder Isidorus

I draw near to Lilith's dwelling, Yea, I hear Lilith calling me, O may Her sweet voice never fall silent, O Lilith favor me, draw me towards You, And guide me into Your presence, Draw me forth with words most intimate, O Lilith sit by me, and reveal to me Yourself, From beneath Your glorious dark garment, May I be changed and transfigured, And please mark me with Your holy seal. O Lilith, press me to Your bosom,

And grant me a unique station with You, And name me with Your name, O sweet Lilith.
