Limitation of relays

It suffers from Contact wear & reliability problems.

Needs to be hard wired.

High cost , difficult to modify.

PLC Advantages
Deferred design The output may be mixture of conventional relays & solid state relays. Designed for electrically noisy environment , no filteration required. Smaller, faster acting & more reliable than hard wired system. They may be programmed using a high level , graphic display . Drum switches , timers, counters etc all are obtained using software . No physical device exist.
