Executive Summary
In a school with 15,000 students there has to be a place to keep all of the records. This is one of the responsibilities of the Special Collections. This section in the library holds the entire 124 year- heritage of the university. This is one of many functions of the Special Collections. The Special Collections has been around for years on the second floor of the library. Most of the students have passed by it when traveling through the library but the problem is that most of the students do not know what is in there and walk right past it. The Special Collections can help out so many students that are trying to research or that want to know more about history. Because of this addressed problem this plan will help out to get the Special Collections on the minds of the students and the faculty. This plan has a goal to raise student awareness of Special Collections by 15% by the end of the spring semester. This will help the Special Collections to receive more traffic through their section of the library. The target audience that this plan will focus on is students in certain majors, students that get online, Faculty and people in the community. The plan will focus on spreading the word out about the exhibits and the events that will be happening in the Special Collections. I will be addressing the tactics in more detail in the following pages. This plan will be implemented in the spring semester. At the end of the semester the employees of the Special Collections will have a sit down meeting to analyze how effective the plan was. If there are needed changes then the employees will change them and move on to implement the changes for the next semester.

Background
In a school with 15,000 students there has to be a place to keep all of the records. This is one of the responsibilities of the Special Collections. This section in the library holds the entire 124 year- heritage of the university. This is one of many functions of the Special Collections. The Special Collections also has many old artifacts; all of these artifacts are for the benefit of students and the faculty. All of the artifacts can be handled by students and are available upon request. This collection includes bibles, artifacts dating back to Egyptian times and many more. The Special Collections also has records of Rexburg and the surrounding areas. This gives the community and students the ability to understand more about the history of the area that they currently live in. The Special Collections also owns the replica of the press that printed the first edition of the Book of Mormon. This press is one in a handful that exists. This press is the only one that lets people print on it. On request the Special Collections can hold groups to come in and print on the press. The Special Collections also helps students and faculty with research projects. The employees at the Special Collections are trained to help patrons to use the library tools to find the desired research.

Objectives & Target Audience

1200 Vulgate Bible

Objectives: The ultimate goal of this campaign will be to raise awareness of the SPC. 1) Increase on-campus student awareness of the SPC by 15 percent. 2) Inform current students about the SPC 3) Have 150 more students come into the SPC during the Spring 2012 semester

Target Audience: The majority of the audience will consist of BYU-Idaho students. This larger group is divided into smaller groups to better determine the messages that will be delivered. The audiences are: History, English and Communication, Religion majors- The Special Collections will be help these majors to write papers by teaching them proper research skills. People that use the website- We will be putting up web banners to help students to be informed about Special Collections and how it can help them. The web banners will have information about events and exhibits. Off Campus: The Special Collections does special tours and classes on request. It has a lot of information that the general public would be interested in. The general public does not know much about what is in the Special Collections.

Strategies & Tactics

Strategies: The strategy of this campaign will be trying to reach most of the students through utilizing campus resources. How those messages are delivered will be determined by these networks: Special Collections-student communication system Print-student communication system Instructor-student communication system Special Collections-Faculty communication system Tactics: Web banner: Web banners of events and exhibits will be put up on the my.byui.edu website and will be designed by Special Collection employees. This will go out to the student audience. Successful story video: This video will be played throughout the library. It will have a student talk about how the Special Collections helped them out with their research paper. Another student will also talk about what he learned while attending the Special Collections. Special Collections booths in the Manwarning Center: These booths will add to the awareness of the Special Collections. The student employees will be passing out pass along cards. In-class promotions by instructors: Student-employees go to different classes to tell students that the Special Collections can help with research papers. Send Media kit to the Scroll, Post Register and Standard Journal Find a relative: In the Special Collections there are many yearbooks. So for this Tactic, we would have a web banner that would tell people to come find their relatives in old yearbooks. This will bring people into the area for employees to better explain the purpose of Special Collections. Library faculty board: Having a group of faculty meet often to try and get the word out to the faculty. Pass along cards: On the pass along card the press will be on one side and the other side will have information about the Special Collections. Come up with a calendar of displays: Have different departments of the college participate in the exhibits so they can be more familiar with the exhibit which will raise awareness of the Special Collections. Have the press open one to two times a month so people can walk in and understand more about the Special Collections.

Calendar- This campaign will start at the beginning of spring semester (April 18th, 2012) and will go through the end of the spring semester (July 20th, 2012). During this time we will be putting all of our tactics into place. Web Banner: The web banners will be put up on the byui.edu website every other week for a couple of days. This will let all students have a chance to click on the web banner and learn more about the Special Collections. Success Stories: This will be played at all major events throughout the semester to help students understand how the Special Collections can help. It will also be played outside the Special Collections on during special occasions. Sending out Media Kit- This will be sent out twice during the semester and will be sent out to major news organizations around the area every time that there is a new exhibit on display. In-class Promotions- We will send out an email to instructors at the beginning of the semester and it would explain what the Special Collections does. They can have the option to have a student employee come in and make an announcement to their students if they would like. Library Board- The Library Board will meet often in order to make sure that the Faculty understand the Special Collections and what it offers. Pass Along Cards- The pass along card will be out for anyone to grab for peoples benefit to better understand the purpose of the Special Collections. Book of Mormon Press is Open- This will happen every month to give students the opportunity to print. This is also a great way to get students into the Special Collections and to better understand what the Special Collections offer. Special Collections Booth- Student employees will have a booth to promote exhibits going on at that time. Find a Relative- This will happen at the beginning of May. The Special Collections will put up the web banner and the employees will have the yearbooks out so that all Patrons can find their relative that came to Ricks College.

Evaluation
Simple, random-survey at the end of the spring semester to measure students awareness of the SPC. Determine the number of students coming into the SPC during the spring semester. If the number increases apply same tactics for the fall. If no change in students coming into the SPC, reassess the plan and make additional changes. Assess the number of classes coming into the Special Collections in the spring.
