Control Function;
Under normal operation, the battery charger supplies dc power to recover the battery voltage after a discharge and to maintain the float voltage. Battery is completely disconnected isolated - from the loads (PABX) The AC 3 phases, main UPS supplies the seven Avaya modules. one phase to modules 1,2 and one phase to module 3 , 4 & 5 and the last phase feeds the modules 6,7 . Upon failure or loss of Commercial AC supply the Main UPS has to support the loads until the ac supply is restored or its capacity failed to deliver the power needed. Only here the control unit will connects the battery to the seven passes ( If the all three phases fall down) to the total loads. To save the backup capacity, the control unit would only feeds the modules that lost its AC phase, remaining modules still feeds from the Main UPS AC. Battery sizing calculations are based upon assumptions of a worst-case scenario load profile to ensure its ability to perform when called upon. Periodic tests involve verifying the capacity of the battery and the performance (ability of the battery to deliver the full duty cycle), Automatic mode: means that a PLC controls all parts inside, detects the presents/Absences of the three AC phases, Presence of the Battery, Charging and directs the Backup dc off/ on (Only DC ) . Manual mode: means that a PLC controls is out of order and you can do all function - ON and OFF AC mode / Backup mode - manually by using the 18 Panel Switches mounted on the front panel and you can do that for all Avaya Cabins, individually or in groups .

Fig 2 - control Unit Front Panel Automatic Mode Position Front Panel Controls /Indicators Key Switch: this is the main power switch, you can use it to control all the system for automatic mode (left position), or Manual mode (right position). Seven Green indicator lamps: displays the power state- lighting for AC Exists and off for Backup mode. Seven Red indicator lamps: displays the power state lighting for AC Absence backup mode and OFF for AC mode. Seven Upper Switches: Putting the system in AC Mode Manually in case of PLC failed for any reason Not that these switches has no function when the master key switch is in auto-position, you must change to manual before using the switches row to chose the whole seven cabins or select individually every switch corresponding to one cabin. Seven Lower Switches: Putting the system in backup Mode Manually in case of PLC failed for any reason also these switches has no function when the master key switch is in auto-position, you must change to manual before using the switches row to chose the whole seven cabins or select individually every switch corresponding to one cabin. Lower Left Switch: to set the charger ON and OFF (In manual mode). Lower Right Switch: connect / disconnect the battery (In manual mode). PAGE 3
