Advanced Etch ing
Working on 2 to 3 plates at once for the same
print gives an extended scope to the possibilities
of etching. Multi-coloured prints add a new
dimension to the work. Mix more straightforward
etching and aquatint with sugar-lift, drypoint and
roll-overs. Colours and tone over-mix to make simple
etchings look a lot more complicated to produce.
Expert tips on perfect registering of plates, inking
and getting the most out of your etching plates, as
well as chine colle and much more.

May 2nd Course 11
Explore The Links Between Collage And Print
1 day intro to intaglio printmaking through
‘dry point’ and ‘chine colle’.
Dry point is a simple etching process that has
been used by Goya and Rembrandt to Picasso.
Chine colle adds colour and pattern to an
etching using collage. Inscribe designs onto
transparent plastic drypoint plates and learn
how to arrange and layer imagery by tracing
directly onto the plate. Using collage, layer
tissue paper and hand made Indian papers to
create rich background colours for your prints.
