Fulfilling Christs Mission:

Our Challenge, Our Solutions

Christ mission is to promote life to the full and to heal. St. Edwards is therefore committed to holistic, integrated, and sustainable action in health. However, this comes with challenges and great efforts are required to look for opportunities.

Challenges
Poverty

Poverty can be defined beyond income ignorance, a sense of powerlessness, deprivation of basic human rights and inability to influence what is happening around oneself Nutrition

Challenges Contd

Due to poverty
Others

come with no basic necessities for admission like food, soap, bedding etc.

Some

guardians abandon their patients on the ward.

Although education in Uganda is meant to be free, some costs are incurred

Child headed household on the increase due to HIV/AIDS US$150 can keep a child at school for one year

The increased OVC challenges

Challenges

Due to poor salaries and lack of decent staff houses, we have had high staff turnover. Because we have kept our user fees low, maintaining a medical doctor at the facility has not been realized. Majority of our patients need free medical care services. Lack of a sustainability strategy to meet staff salaries and other maintenance costs. Transporting ill patients has always been a challenge especially for pregnant women as majority of them report very late.

Some of our solutions

Created partnerships
MoH supporting HCT Hope Family Clinic treats HIV +ve mothers and their exposed children MoH Support supervision

The tasks before us

Our immediate needs

Multipurpose vehicle to facilitate patient transport and facility activities Construction of staff houses An improved filing system to enable better patient records management Public address system that can be used for community education
