ProjectDetroit Automotive Project-General Motors Foundation PUSH Excel Scholarship Overview

Deadline August 9, 2012

PUSH Excel Scholarship Overview The PUSH Excel Scholarship Program has been created to financially assist youth meet all criteria to attend college, but lack the financial ability to complete their pursuit for higher education. Rev. Jackson instituted this scholarship program because college is the key to economic freedom for all Americans. We believe this scholarship program is essential because the pursuit of higher education and a college degree is becoming less and less affordable for average college age students in the US. The number of people currently holding student debt is up to 37 million Americans and counting. The average debt of graduates with a student loan is about $25,000.00. The Scholarship program is designed to assist in lifting the burden of students acquiring loans by offering scholarships. Over the past seven years, PUSH Excel has awarded over three million dollars to hundreds of deserving students enrolled in colleges and universities across the country. PUSH Excel Scholars attend a variety of institutions of higher learning and we take pride in the fact that ninety percent of PUSH Excel Scholars graduate from college. Scholarship recipients will be selected from a pool of applicants who apply online and meet the minimum criteria provided in the guidelines listed below. Each applicant will be evaluated by an impartial committee of educators and corporate executives. Scholars will be formally presented during the Annual Rainbow PUSH Detroit Automotive Symposium in October 2012. Requirements for all scholarship recipients All scholarship recipients are required to cooperate with the Scholarship committee to promote the PUSH-Excels scholarship program, specifically by writing a thank-you note to donors. Recipients also may be asked to participate in other public relations activities for PUSH-Excel.
