PREFACE
This Miscellaneous Publication was prepared by the Standards Australia Committee IT/1 on Information ProcessingInterconnection to supersede MP 591995. The objective of this publication is to explain the elements of OSI naming and addressing that require to be registered on a national basis and to specify the procedures under which the OSI registration authority will operate. This publication is based on a series of International Standards which have been developed cooperatively between ISO, IEC and ITU-T and adopted as Australian Standards. Throughout the document, references will be to the ISO/IEC document. Listed in Clause 2 are the ISO/IEC, ITU-T and Australian equivalent numbers, followed by the title of the ISO/IEC document. The ITU-T and Australian titles may differ slightly. Within the OSI environment there is a need for a national naming convention administered by a registration authority. The organization of the authority is established by the OSI/IEC and ITU-T Standard for various OSI services. There is a need to register a number of separate elements and this publication describes this system and procedures for the registration of naming and addressing sub-domains within the Australian segment of the OSI environment.
