Negotiations Update

The CTAs Negotiation Team met with the Superintendents Negotiation Team yesterday to begin talks. Each team brought forward four sections of the contract and two appendices that would be open for negotiations along with compensation. The two sides also agreed to address sections of the contract that will need to be changed do to the legislatures passing and the Governors signing of the Student Success Act aka Senate Bill 736, which is responsible for the new Marzano Evaluations system. CTA started the conversation with opening statements praising the hard work done by the teachers in Palm Beach County and our priority of step increases and our willingness to find creative and innovative ways to budget for those increases. Additionally, CTA proposed ground rules that would help the District and CTA have clear expectations of each other while negotiating. The District is currently reviewing the ground rules for agreement. CTA is opening the following four articles for discussion: Article One, Section C Bully and Harassment Article Three, Section B Employee Hours and Conditions Article Three, Section C Professional Qualification and Assignments Article three, Section P Schedules The Superintendents team is opening the follow four articles and two appendices for discussion: Article One, Section F Negotiations Procedure Article Two, Section O Children of Employees Article Two, Section U Lesson Plans Article Three, Section A Contract Year Appendix N Deregulated Schools Appendix O [Workshops on the topic of] Elementary Relief Time The teams agreed to schedule almost back to back meeting to move this process forward. We will meet again on th th July 17 (CTA Office) and July 19 (District Office). During this meeting the teams will present their full language proposals and explain the intent behind each proposal. After the meeting on July 19, the parties will present their compensation proposals. Members who have questions should contact members of the negotiations committee.

Swain Middle School; and Edith Williams-Pride, Boca Raton Elementary JTEC/MARZANO UPDATE An emergency meeting of the JTEC Committee has been called for Monday, June 3, 2012 from 8 to 9:30am to discuss the inconsistences with the implementation of the Marzano Evaluation system along with the lack of communication between District members of JTEC and CTA members of JTEC. When CTA knows the outcome of the meeting, we will communicate it to our members.
