Bin Laden's voice was detected regularly until [14 December 2001] by intelligence operatives
monitoring radio transmissions in Tora Bora, according to the Pentagon [details]. Since then,
nothing has been heard from the al-Qa'eda leader and President Bush has hinted in private that
bin Laden's silence could mean he has been killed. [Telegraph, 12/28/2001]
Osama bin Laden is dead. The news first came from sources
in Afghanistan and Pakistan almost six months ago: the
fugitive died in December [2001] and was buried in the
mountains of southeast Afghanistan. Pakistan's president,
Pervez Musharraf, echoed the information. The remnants of
Osama's gang, however, have mostly stayed silent, either to
keep Osama's ghost alive or because they have no means of
communication.
With an ego the size of Mount Everest, Osama bin Laden would not have, could not have,
remained silent for so long if he were still alive. He always liked to take credit even for things
he had nothing to do with. Would he remain silent for nine months and not trumpet his own
survival? [New York Times. July 11, 2002]
Bin Laden has often been reported to be in poor health. Some accounts claim that he is
suffering from Hepatitis C, and can expect to live for only two more years. According to Le
Figaro, last year [2000] he ordered a mobile dialysis machine to be delivered to his base at
Kandahar in Afghanistan. [Guardian]
This is a man who was clearly not well. I mean, as you see from these pictures here, he's
really, by December [2001] he's looking pretty terrible.
But by December, of course, that tape that was aired then, he's barely moving the left
side of his body. So he's clearly got diabetes. He has low blood pressure. He's got a
wound in his foot. He's apparently got dialysis ... for kidney problems. [CNN]
The [December 27, 2001 video] was dismissed by the Bush administration ... as sick
propaganda possibly designed to mask the fact the al-Qa'eda leader was already dead.
"He could have made the video and then ordered that it be released in the event of his
death," said one White House aide. [Telegraph]
[A Bush administration official] said U.S. intelligence is that bin Laden needs dialysis every
three days and "it is fairly obvious that that could be an issue when you are running from place
to place, and facing the idea of needing to generate electricity in a mountain hideout." [CNN]

Osama bin Laden - a dead nemesis perpetuated by the US government http://whatreallyhappened.com/osama_dead.html
Renal dialysis -- talking about hemodialysis -- is something that really is reserved for
patients in end-stage renal failure. That means their kidneys have just completely shut
down. The most common cause of something like that would be something like diabetes
and hypertension. Once that's happened, if you're separated from your dialysis machine --
and incidentally, dialysis machines require electricity, they're going to require clean water,
they're going to require a sterile setting -- infection is a huge risk with that. If you don't
have all those things and a functioning dialysis machine, it's unlikely that you'd survive
beyond several days or a week at the most. [CNN]
Usama bin Laden has died a peaceful death due to an untreated lung complication, the
Pakistan Observer reported, citing a Taliban leader who allegedly attended the funeral of
the Al Qaeda leader. "The Coalition troops are engaged in a mad search operation but they
would never be able to fulfill their cherished goal of getting Usama alive or dead," the
source said. [FOX News]

CNN.com - Peter Bergen: Bin Laden has aged 'enormously' - February 1, 2002 http://edition.cnn.com/2002/US/02/01/gen.bergen.cnna/index.html
CNN's Paula Zahn discussed the tape
Friday with CNN terrorism analyst Peter
"% Bergen, who has been studying bin
($% Laden and his operation for several
"01)
years.
"'2/('*%%#
CNN: Before we talk about the substance of this tape, let's once again talk about
Al-Jazeera. At first, Al-Jazeera .... denied that it even existed. Then they came
out and said they never aired it because it wasn't newsworthy. Well, you've seen
this tape. Is maybe a more rational explanation that they didn't want to air this
because it was so indicting?
BERGEN: You know, I'm frankly very puzzled. This was the only television
interview that bin Laden ever gave and, frankly, if he was reading out of the
telephone book it would be newsworthy. And the fact is that there is quite a lot
of -- it is very indicting. I mean, on a couple of occasions, he basically seems to
take responsibility for the events of 9-11. He sort of ducks the question of
anthrax. But this is all very interesting.
So frankly I'm just perplexed why they chose not to air it. I mean I'm not privy
to all the facts of the case, but it's a very puzzling episode.
CNN: The U.S. government also obtained this independently. So what was the
incentive in holding this back from the American public?
BERGEN: Well, Paula, I mean, again, I'm just really, really perplexed.
Al-Jazeera bills its reputation as being a sort of independent broadcaster in the
Middle East, different from some of the other broadcasters that are basically
government entities. Perhaps they came under some pressure from their own
government, the government of Qatar, not to broadcast this.
But I think there's some facts that we don't know yet which will elucidate this
funny and rather strange episode.
CNN: Many Islamic analysts have suggested that Osama bin Laden has always
distorted the Muslim faith. What do you make of his continued (statements that)
it's permissible under Islamic law for innocents to kill other innocents?
BERGEN: Well, it's just ludicrous. I'm not an Islamic scholar. But I mean
there's nothing -- and the Koran is very, very explicit about -- even if you accept
the dubious premise that somehow this holy war was justified -- civilians are
off-limits in any kind of war as far as the Koran and as far as Islamic traditions
are concerned. This is a very unusual interpretation. It cannot be justified in
Islam.
CNN: The last interview you did with bin Laden was back in 1997. How
different was the Osama bin Laden we saw in this tape, the interview taped late
in October of 2001?
BERGEN: He's actually quite similar. I mean, in terms of his demeanor and his
voice -- these kinds of things are quite similar. The big difference is that he's
aged enormously between '97 and October of last year.
This is a man who was clearly not well. I mean, as you see from these pictures
here, he's really, by December he's looking pretty terrible. But by December, of
course, that tape that was aired then, he's barely moving the left side of his
body. So he's clearly got diabetes. He has low blood pressure. He's got a wound
in his foot. He's apparently got dialysis ... for kidney problems.
I mean, this is a man who has a number of health problems, apart from the fact
that anybody running around the Afghan mountains is not going to be in great
shape.

CNN.com - Peter Bergen: Bin Laden has aged 'enormously' - February 1, 2002 http://edition.cnn.com/2002/US/02/01/gen.bergen.cnna/index.html
CNN: And, of course, the question that people continue to debate is not only is
he not well, is he still alive today? Peter Bergen, thank you very much for
coming along to share your insights with us this morning.

Karzai: bin Laden 'probably' dead
Monday, October 7, 2002 Posted: 2:34 AM EDT (0634 GMT)
KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) --
!" Osama bin Laden is "probably"

Mullah Omar is alive, Afghan
$ President Hamid Karzai has said.
"
Karzai's comments came on the eve of the
anniversary of the start of the U.S.-led
!% military campaign in Afghanistan as part of
the war on terrorism.

"But still, you never know. He might be

Afghan President
"The more we don't hear of him, and the Hamid Karzai told
more time passes, there is the likelihood CNN's Wolf Blitzer
that he probably is either dead or seriously that Osama bin
wounded somewhere." Laden is 'probably'
dead but Taliban leader Mullah
But he said Omar is certainly alive. "We Omar is still alive
know of that," he said. "And we have come
close to arresting him several times, but
he's been able to escape."
No threat
He contended the Taliban, which the United States designated a "terrorist" group, is a
minimal threat to his government.
"They are now a group on the run. They are no longer a government. They are no
longer a political movement. They are no longer a reality in Afghanistan," Karzai said.
"We don't see them as a danger in any way, of course. As a terrorist organization, as
terrorist individuals, they may try to strike and they may try to assassinate or shoot
people or lob bombs. That kind of activity they can do, but not a political or military
threat anymore."
Karzai, who was the target of an assassination attempt September 5, said the
perpetrator has been identified and is "someone very, very close to the Taliban."
He insisted he is not afraid for his life: "I trust God's keeping, and when he decides I'll
not be here anymore, that will be the moment. Before that, I have no fears."
Karzai said U.S. and allied forces are helping to stabilize and keep Afghanistan "away
from dangers," partly by training Afghan security forces.
But "there are other areas in which the international community has not delivered the
promises that they made, especially in the reconstruction of the basic infrastructure of
Afghanistan."
Karzai said his country has not received the economic support it expected from the
international community for rebuilding efforts.
It is not clear how much longer the United States and its allies will need to keep a
military presence in Afghanistan, Karzai said. But "at this point, I think it will be very,
very unwise to think that Afghanistan can be left alone."
In the midst of a U.S. debate over possible military action against the Saddam Hussein
regime in Iraq, Karzai said he is unconcerned that the United States might shift its
attention from Afghanistan to that country.
President Bush's administration has threatened Iraq with military action, accusing it of
expanding and developing weapons of mass destruction.
"But I would like to remind our friends in the United States and in the international
community that we have to really finish the job in Afghanistan completely," Karzai said.

Magazine runs what it calls bin Laden's
will
Saturday, October 26, 2002 Posted: 2:14 PM EDT (1814 GMT)
LONDON, England (CNN) -- The
editor-in-chief of a London-based
Arab news magazine said a
purported will it published
Saturday was written late last year
by Osama bin Laden, and shows
"he's dying or he's going to die
!" soon."
#
U.S. intelligence officials say they have the
purported will, but are not able to say if it is
$% &&
genuine. CNN has not been able to verify Osama bin Laden
" that the document is bin Laden's will.
'
( "He did write the will as someone saying
( good-bye," Hani Nakshabandi of the Arab
news magazine Al Majalla told CNN.
He said one of the magazine's reporters
) obtained the four-page document, said to
be signed by the leader of the al Qaeda
terrorist network and dated December 14, SPECIAL REPORT
2001, in Afghanistan.
"My last advice is to the mujahedeen everywhere," the document says. "Take a
breather and put aside for the time being, fighting the Jews and the Crusades, and
instead devote your efforts to purifying your groups from the agents and the cowards
and those impostors who claim to be scholars amongst you."
"As for you, my sons, forgive me if I failed to devote more of my time to you since I
answered the call to Jihad," the document says.
It continues: "I have carried the burden of Muslims and their causes, and have chosen
a dangerous path and endured hardship, disappointment and betrayal. If it wasn't for
betrayal, things would be different today."
The writer advises his sons, "This is the most precious advice I can give you. I also
want you to stay away from al Qaeda," asking them "not to follow in his path and seek
leadership."
Because of the message to his children, Nakshabandi said he believes there will be
dramatic upheaval in al Qaeda leadership, and his magazine plans another article in
the next week or so based on correspondence among the group's leaders.
To his wives, the author of the document says, "May God reward you generously. You
have been very supportive to me. You recognized right at the start that the path will be
paved with land mines and other obstacles."
"Don't consider marrying again, and devote yourselves to your children and guide them
to the right path."
The purported will, signed "Your brother Abu Abdullah Osama Muhammad Bin Laden,"
could not be independently authenticated.
According to the magazine, their experts say there have been no confirmed sightings
of bin Laden since last December.
The document was dated after the September 11 terror attacks against the United
States and about one week before Taliban rule officially ended in Afghanistan with the
swearing-in of an interim government.
In the document, the writer says the attacks on New York and Washington were the
third in a series of al Qaeda attacks that also included the 1983 attack on a U.S.
Marines barracks in Lebanon and the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa.
Also in December, the U.S.-led coalition was bombing suspected al Qaeda training
camps in mountainous eastern Afghanistan and searching for bin Laden and top
Taliban leaders believed to be hiding in the region.
Nakshabandi said he heard about the purported will in March, and obtained a copy a
week ago from one of his reporters posted near Kandahar, in southern Afghanistan,
but declined to be more specific. The magazine waited to publish it until they could
confirm its authenticity, he added.
"I have confirmation it is the right one," he said, citing his own sources.
While admitting he doesn't know for sure if bin Laden is dead, Nakshabandi said,
"Once someone writes his will, it means either he's dying or he's going to die soon."
Al Majalla is published by Saudi Research and Publishing Co., and has about 93,000
readers.

Pretty much any piece of video that has ever been recorded is becoming clip art that producers
can digitally sculpt into the story they want to tell, according to Eric Haseltine, senior vice
president for R&D at Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, Calif. With additional video
manipulation technologies, previously recorded actors can be made to say and do things they
have never actually done or said. "You can have dead actors star again in entirely new movies,"
says Haseltine. [techreview.com]

The genuine bin Laden's last video appearance was late in 2001:
"The big difference is that he's aged enormously between '97 and October of last year
[2001]. ... So he's clearly got diabetes. He has low blood pressure. He's got a wound in his
foot. He's apparently got dialysis ... for kidney problems." [CNN 2/1/2002]
Bin Laden's beard was much whiter than on Nov 3, the last time al-Jazeera broadcast a
video of him, and he appeared much older than his 44 years. Lack of sunlight and a poor
diet seemed to have taken a toll on him. [Telegraph 12/28/2001]
Bin Laden "aged enormously" between 1997 & 2001 due to kidney problems, lack of sunlight
and a poor diet, but between 2001 & 2004 he "unaged". Truly amazing.
"Let me make this very clear. Americans will not be intimidated or influenced by an enemy
of our country. I'm sure Senator Kerry agrees with this." The American people were at war
and would prevail, he said. [BBC News]
...this is somewhat different to the Bush administration's response to the genuine bin Laden
video released in 2001:
The recording was dismissed by the Bush administration yesterday as sick propaganda

possibly designed to mask the fact the al-Qa'eda leader was already dead. "He could have

White House aide. [Telegraph]
President Bush has opened a six-point lead over John Kerry in the first opinion poll to
include sampling taken after the new Osama bin Laden videotape was broadcast on Friday
night. [Telegraph 10/31/04]
Even Walter Cronkite found the video incredibly convenient for the Bush administration.
Consider this: if this was the real Osama, didn't his appearance prove that Bush has wasted two
hundred billion dollars and a thousand American lives (plus 100,000 Iraqi lives) without
making us any safer from Osama? If the 2004 tape were genuine, wouldn't it prove that Bush is
a total failure in his own "war on terror"?
