1. (a) Discuss the differences between the differential amplifiers used in the first two
stages of op - amp.
(b) Compare and contrast an ideal op - amp and practical op - amp.
(c) Draw an ideal voltage transfer curve of an op - amp. [8+5+3]

2. (a) Compare and contrast the performance of a BJT based op - amp and FET op
- amp in detail.
(b) Define the terms: Input bias current, input offset voltage, Gain Bandwidth
product, output offset voltage and output offset current. [6+10]

3. (a) Design a differentiator to differentiate an input signal that varies in frequency


from 10 Hz to about 1KHz. If a sine wave of 1V peak at 1000 Hz is applied
to this differentiator draw the output waveforms.
(b) Why active differentiator circuits are not used in analog computer to solve
differential equations. [10+6]

4. (a) Explain the astable multivibbrator using operational amplifier.


(b) Explain how an operational amplifier is used as a basic comparator. [8+8]

5. (a) Define the conditions on the feedback circuit of an amplifier to convert it in


to an oscillator.
(b) Design RC phase shift oscillator for 300 Hz frequency using IC µA 741 and
±15 V power supplies. Assume necessary component values.
(c) Suggest a method to reduce the output voltage swing to ±6.5 Volts. [6+6+4]

6. (a) Give methods for obtaining symmetrical square wave using 555 timer.
(b) Discuss any two applications of 555 timer in monostable mode. [8+8]

7. (a) Draw a schematic diagram of a D/A converter. Use resistance values whose
rations are multiples of 2. Explain the operation of the converter.
(b) Draw the block diagram of a converting 4-bit A/D converter and explain its
operation. Sketch the output waveform. [8+8]

8. Explain the use IC 1496 as AM modulator with necessary circuit diagram. [16]

1. In figure 1 is shown a differential amplifier using ideal op-amp

(a) Find the output voltage Vo .


(b) Show that the output corresponding common mode voltage VCM=(V1 +V2 )/2
is zero if R’/R = R2 /R1 . Find Vo in this case.
(c) Find the CMRR of the amplifier if R’/R 6= R2 /R1 . [16]

(b) In an inverting amplifier of the type shown below figure 2 R1 = 100KΩ, Rf =
10MΩ. Calculate maximum output offset voltage caused by the input offset
voltage Vos ; maximum output offset voltage caused by the input bias current
IB . The op - amp used is 741 with Vos = 6mv and IB = 500nA. [8+8]

3. (a) Draw a neat circuit diagram of a.c non - inverting amplifier with single supply.
Explain its working with its input output waveforms.
(b) For a non - inverting single supply AC amplifier Rin = 50Ω, Ci = 0.1µf, C1 =
0.1µf, Rl = R2 = R3 = 100KΩ, RF = 1MΩ and Vcc = +15V. Determine the
bandwidth of the amplifier and maximum output voltage swing. [8+8]

4. (a) Explain, How to obtain triangular wave using a square wave generator.
(b) With the help of a neat circuit diagram explain the working of a logarithmic
amplifier. [8+8]

5. (a) Design a fourth order Butterworth low pass filter whose bandwidth is 1kHz.
Select all capacitors equal to 1000nF.
(b) Explain the operation of narrow band pass filter and obtain the frequency
response. [8+8]

6. (a) Describe how frequency division and multiplication can be achieved using a
Phase Locked Loop.
(b) What are the important parameters of PLL, which make it suitable for fre-
quency multiplication and division applications? [8+8]

7. (a) Sketch and explain the transfer characteristic of a DAC with necessary equa-
tions.
(b) LSB of a 9 - bit DAC is represented by 19.6mv. If an input of 9 zero bits is
represented by 0 volts.
i. Find the output of the DAC for an input 10110 1101 and 01101 1011.
ii. What is the Full scale reading (FSR) of this DAC? [8+8]

8. What are all basic blocks of analog multiplexer? Explain how the data selections
process is performed it. [16]

3. (a) For the non - inverting a.c. amplifier Rin = 50Ω, ci = 0.1µf, R1 = 1KΩ,R0
= R3 = 820Ω, RF = 5.6KΩ and Rl = 10KΩ. Determine the gain and band
width of the amplifier.
(b) What is an instrumentation amplifier? List any three applications of the

4. (a) Describe the principle of operation of precision half wave rectifier with wave-
forms.
(b) Explain the operation of antilog amplifier using op - amp. [8+8]
5. (a) An ideal LPF having fh = 5kHz is cascaded with HPF having fl = 4.8kHz.
Sketch the frequency response of the cascaded filter.
(b) Design a Ist order LPF for a high cut off frequency of 2kHz and pass band

(b) Define the terms: ‘Resolution’, ‘Linearity’ and ‘Conversion time’ of an Analog
