License Management Setup in DHI Software based on ArcGIS

The software from DHI Software and ESRI can operate in two different license management types local and network. The installation process of the software guides the user in setting up the license management type. The type of license management is determined by the license purchased. The following text briefly describes how to set up either one of the two license management types during the installation process.

Local license (Single user, one DHI Software dongle)

During the installation process the program asks for the type of license management for the DHI software. Select Local license management. Next, select the license file location to be from the Internet or browse to the license file if you already have a copy. If the location of the license file is chosen to be from the Internet, attach the DHI dongle to the PC when the installation program requests it. License files for DHI Software and ESRI are downloaded and stored in a default location (optionally you may select another directory). If you already have received copies of the DHI Software and ESRI license files, please find out where they are located. To enable the ESRI license select the ESRI license file (*.esu9) when prompted for it. The location of the ESRI license file depends on how you have received it, as described in the above paragraphs.

Network license (one DHI Software dongle, one ESRI dongle)

To operate DHI Software and ArcGIS in network license management you need to install license manager programs from DHI Software and ESRI. The license manager programs are installed on the PC you have designated to be running as license server. The license manger programs may run on different PCs. To install the DHI License Manager Server please follow the detailed instructions found in the DHI License Manager Server User Guide located on the DVD. The DHI License Manager Server installation program is located on the DVD. During installation you are prompted for the location of the DHI license file. You can either request it from the Internet or browse to the license file if you already have a copy. If the location of the license file is chosen to be from the Internet, attach the DHI dongle to the PC when the installation program requests it. License files for DHI Software and ESRI are downloaded and stored in a default location. Optionally you may select another directory. Install the ArcGIS license manager from the DVD. During installation you are prompted for the ESRI network license file *.efl9. If you, during installation of the DHI License Manager Server, requested license files from the internet the ESRI license file will be located in the default location (for English systems it is C:\Program Files\Common Files\DHI\MIKEZero), optionally in the user selected directory as recommended in the above paragraph. Remember to insert the ESRI dongle in the parallel or USB port of the computer that provides the network licensing. If you already have an ArcGIS License Manager server running and only want one ArcGIS license server to be available, special actions can be taken. Please return the ESRI dongle delivered by DHI Software together with the 8 digit long ESRI dongle number belonging to your existing ArcGIS License Manager installation. We will merge your already existing ESRI modules with the modules required for your DHI product, and return a new ESRI network license file to be used together with your existing ESRI installations and DHI Software products.

Now the DHI Software and ESRI licenses are available to DHI Software in your network. You only need to know the names of the server PCs. During the installation of DHI Software, the installation program asks for the type of license management for the DHI software. Select Network license management. Next, type the name of the license server running the DHI License Manager Server. Then select the license type for ArcGIS to be Network. At the end of the client installation process of ArcGIS select the name of the server with the ArcGIS License Manager server running.
