BUILDING GEOMETRY

INTRODUCTION
This specification lists the design criteria used while performing calculations for design of all structural items related to Electrical Room. Briefly described herein are the structural systems of the building, design approach adopted, various codes used, material properties, loads, allowable limits in deflections and stability and the soil properties. This criterion complies with all relevant engineering standards, latest editions of engineering and industry codes.

BUILDING DIMENSIONS:
The proposed Electrical Room #1 has following dimensions: From Ground Floor to roof: Length: 13.72m clear between grid line 1 & 4. Width: 3.41m clear between grid line A & B Height: 4.00m from finish floor to bottom of roof slab.

STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS DESCRIPTION

The structural system consists of : Structure: Walls: Roof: Reinforced concrete frames 250mm thick cmu block walls above ground level Reinforced concrete slab.

Foundation: Isolated footing Grade Beam: Tieing to columns and support masonry walls Floor slab: Concrete slab on grade

DESIGN APPROACH
Whole building is modeled and analyzed using STAAD PRO software. Roof dead & live load is determined & applied using staad pro floor load command.Seismic & wind load is also determined & applied per UBC & ASCE requirments. The maximum load reaction of the structure is taken for the analysis of isolated footing.Soil bearing pressure are checked to determined the adequacy of isolated footing per geotechnical report.

APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS

The following codes and standards are used in the design: ASCE 7 05 UBC - 1997 ACI-318-2005 Minimum design loads for buildings and other structures. Uniform Building code American Concrete Institute, Building Requirements for Reinforced Concrete.
