UALA LUMPUR: The time has come for the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to go on the offensive, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak declared yesterday. Speaking to more than 1,700 delegates at the Gerakan 41st National Delegates Conference here, Najib who is BN chairman, rallied all component parties to be fearless and put up a good fight in the next general elections. The time has come for us to be on the offensive! Dont be scared!
(We must) go into the ring and put up a good fight! That is the spirit! he said, to thunderous applause. And in showing leadership by example, Najib went on the offensive immediately, taking numerous swipes at the Pakatan Rakyat during his 40-minute opening speech at the Gerakan NDC. He slammed the opposition for not having announced its shadow cabinet until now. Dont talk about forming a government, form a shadow cabinet first! said Najib, adding that in contrast to Pakatan Rakyat, the BN presents a unified front to the people, with all component parties under the
same banner and symbol. Najib said that the opposition parties have only three weapons in their arsenal. To be the opposition, (you only) need three weapons: kutuk, hasut dan janji (insult, incite and promise). First they will knock you down, then they will cucuk (provoke), then they will promise the sun and the moon, and even the galaxy, he said, to cheers from the crowd. He also hit out at the oppositions Buku Jingga, saying its contents were simply not do-able. TURN TO PAGE 03
